The way Airbus builds planes, they don't need to 'start' a production line for any of the 330/340 series - never mind .. maybe I am starting to dig myself into a deep hole there ..

Yes, but that doesn't help answer the question of "where is the mega buck to buy a 773W?

and to do some belated clarification ..

yah, and again, in case you also missed the point .. a 773W will cost a mega truck lot of money vs the 330/340 - money which I can't seem to find in UL's business plan .. add in the cost of a new type, Certification, support .. etc. etc. etc.
My dear friend, it is not my concern if SriLankan has or does not have the money...it is their problem to find the money if they want to buy new airplanes!!. Let me repeat that I said from the situation and the future potential, the A330-300 seems to be the best option for UL since the 77W will (a) have a long delivery slot (b) be more expensive and (c) be too big an aircraft for UL to fill up. Even Jet airways uses the 77W only on BOM/DEL-LHR where it is making money, even to Dubai they use a 737-800 3/4 times a day from BOM whereas EK uses 5x widebodies. So the issue is of whether UL can fill up a large aircraft like the 77W....current trends seem to suggest they will not be able to...therefore the choice will boil down to an A330-300, Airbus, which of course will make you happy since you seem to be an Airbus fan.

yes, and how much money did 9W make - vs how much money did UL loose ??

And tell me, I know some sectors which are loaded to the brim, but still loosing money .. there is a difference between filling a plane and making money doing that ..

Interesting conclusions you draw there - so it is MY FAULT of having an academic chat in favour of Airbus, that UL cannot afford a 773W ?

And where and when do I say I am an Airbus fan ? .. never mind .. for that matter, I don't even have a 330 or 320 or 3xx in my nic

I was just trying to be practical when I realised it doesn't fly with you ..

So, yes, UL - Please buy a few 77Ws please .. (if you can afford it .. ) or else, still please buy 773Ws

PS: and in case you are crying out loud comparing 9Ws smaller planes in lieu of larger planes, well, it has become a normal practice to increase frequency, where possible, instead of boosting capacity.

UL too now flies a daily 320 to SIN and KUL, apart from the existing wide bodies .. to grab a share of O & W market - a pretty good move - if they can realise the potential.

      • Hey Guys, I have plans to visit Katunayake to do Plane Spotting + I want to take photos of aircraft landings and take off. Could some one tell me the best locations for this purpose ? Do they have restrictions for taking photos in the Airport area ? Thanks.

yeah! they have restrictions. There are some sign boards near the fence saying "Taking photographs in this area strictly prohibited" Eventhough the war is over there are a lot of security guards along the fence! The best place was Katunayaka Railway station but they have covered it about 4 year ago.
I think "18 Kanuwa Ground" is a good place for spotting as I have seen some pictures taken from there.
          Good luck

It looks like a private jet (third aircraft in right-hand side)
