Thanks SpookyFlyer. It's nice to see TK touching down in Colombo. Any Idea What time did you take this picture ? As per sked it should arrive in CMB at 15:10. In which runway it was landing ?

Still looking forward to see more TK pictures from CMB. Perhaps Sakith will share some close-up pictures of TK.

If I'am not mistaken aircraft would have reached the gate around 14:55 after taxing, water salute.. How many of you know what is the meaning for the silver art appearing in Turkish Airlines aircraft's middle section of the fuselage.

This Turkish Airlines aircraft will spend around 6hours in Colombo before return back to Istanbul. It's a treat for CMB!

@Sakith - Do you know how was the passenger-load-factor on the mainden TK flight ?

Turkey’s flag carrier Turkish Airlines for the first time launched service to Colombo International Airport from Istanbul from last Friday. The airline would operate five flights per week to Male via Colombo.

They would operate every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, in the sector Istanbul/Male/Colombo/Male/Istanbul.

General Manager, Turksh Airlines, Adnan Aykac said that the flights would operate on an Airbus A340-300 which has the ability to carry about 100 additional passengers.

Asked why they failed to recognize Colombo as a destination before? he said that the airline was on a rapid expansion drive and now they have the additional aircraft to service Colombo.

“The airline has also ordered more aircraft and when we acquire them we would be also looking at operating direct flights to Colombo in a few months,” he said.

He also said that forward booking for Colombo too is good and they hope to maintain a 80% load factor throughout the year.

“Sri Lanka is an exciting destination for us,” he said.

He also said that though they operate to Male they have not got the rights to carry passengers from Colombo to Male and back.

Colombo would be the airline’s 219th destination and the 98th country to operate flights.

Chairman Pership Holidays, Manik Perere, the appointed GSA for Turkish Airlines in Sri Lanka said that the introduction of the Turkish airline would be another major boost for the Sri Lankan tourism industry.

“There would be many more tourists not only form Turkey but from other regional airlines that would visit Sri Lanka due to this airline,” he said.

TK inaugural flight to Colombo was operated on A330-203 (TC-JNC if I'am not mistaken). But they are now sending A330-343X to MLE/CMB from 3rd Feb 2013. As per the airline sources, their A333s could accomodate upto 289 seats that has 28J/261Y.

FYI - Turkish Airlines has a very interesting management. Turkish Airlines, one of the largest airline in the world, is still using three ageing A340-311s in their fleet : MSN23,25 and 57. On the other hand they have not yet placed an order for any equipments like B787s or A350s. CEO of TK said they are happy ordering more B777 and A33S. I like it. I wouldn't go and place an order for some aircraft which hasn't proved yet as a reliable aircraft for the airline economy.
