On this particular day, there was a disabled 8D a/c on runway for a short period - which must have been the reason. A/C are often allowed to land during the closure if they are short of fuel to hold and no heavy modification work is ongoing. The closure was anyway only for an hour or so and TK appears to have opted to layover at MAA.

As far as I'am aware, TK730 is scheduled to land in CMB every Wednesdays at 14:15 which is just 10/15 minutes before the runway maintanace starts. on the 6th Feb, TK730 was delayed unfortunately that let the flight and the pax in the tough situation where they had no-choice of diverting the flight to some local airport. As per flightstats, TK730/1 was landed back in CMB at 21:02 from MAA and departed just after 38minutes back to MLE-IST.
That's why we need HRI which could handle wide-bodies. It also become second runway is vital for CMB. I hate when our flights are diverted to neibouring countries like India, the maldives etc..

Why are we using A343s for the sub-continent? Do we have enough turn-over? with 200+ seats??? A343 & 332s should be utilizing in longer routes??

I have seen the A343s and 332s deployed on MAA CMB many times, flown in them too. Now unless the loads are consistently good which means 210-220 seats or thereabouts, it does not make sense and shows how weak UL's fleet planning is. This is not to say that widebodies cannot/should not be deployed on short haul (< 2 hrs) flights...several examples of widebodies being used for short flights are there....BOM DXB with EK, 5 frequencies a day using 355 seater 77W or A330 / 550 seater 747-400D used by JAL/ANA in Japan domestic flights etc....
