This forum has become a place where nobody can utter a single negative word about UL or its cronies (no matter how constructive the criticism is), because of the 'hired muscle' that will vehemently deny it and pounce on you.

Respecting someone’s right to his opinion is one thing, but when servants of the cronies come here to defend their masters as part of a paid service, it gets unpleasant.

    This really has become silly.
    Haha well said.

We keep being told how "great" it is that both UL and MJ are "run together" and what a genius plan has been invented. Then we get comparisons to other airlines.

The fact is other airlines are RUN PROPERLY as actual businesses. They are run professionally and properly not at the whims and fancies of inexperienced morons who have got positions because they are connected to the Government in power. You do not see profits stolen, free flights given to various stooges, aircraft "stolen" for special jaunts and the management living luxury lifestyles at the airlines expense. You do not also see staff unpaid and treated badly where those who actually care and have ideas for betterment are crushed and bullied while various "favourites" get pushed ahead.

Furthermore other airlines have to make cuts etc because they are not being kept afloat by the tax payer all the time.

The reality is UL is not managed properly or professionally. Mihin is a flying JOKE. A so called “budget airline” that is not run like a budget airline which is also eating away at the credibility and quality of UL.
And seriously are people such ugly sycophants that the only reason they are keeping Mihin around is because it has the Preso’s name and thus do not want to “upset” him/seen to be insulting him by scrapping it? Whats up with this "worship the bigshot" culture? If Mihin was scraped MR would not care or be "hurt" by such a move.

It's a great news !! @ Kflyer - Do you know when TK will be starting the schedule flights to CMB ? I think there are possibilities this new TK's CMB flight includes a stopover in MLE. Please confirm ? Like to see more international airlines in CMB !!
I would think a tag on to the MLE service from April or July 2013

      • Hello Gentlemen!

This is my first post at this forum!

I have been following UL very recently and I must ask the forum as to why:

UL never publicizes its code shares: with the except of a few like the one with RJ, MH and EY and a half baked announcement that UL and AZ will code share but not until I read the inflight magazine that:

UL code shares with AZ to Milan, but the bigest shocker is that UL now codeshares with WY (Oman Air) to Zurich!!!!

Why wasn't this notified via Media or via UL's Facebook page?

As a loyal Flyer, I find this .........

BTW.. Will fly Smiles ( I call it Fly Sad) get any better? Even still I have to run to the UL WTC office to ensure that the miles are credited to my account.. Guess ill wait till UL joins One world before I switch loyalty programs if there is no Improvement!

You are correct Cayman; I was taking deep sigh and deep thought before commenting on the tread; #### *************************************. but for me what really worrisome is that he is unaware that CEO is also part of the board of directors & as he says that he has read the UL annual report which says on page 15

          DIRECTORS’ REMUNERATION
The Directors have not received any emoluments and/or any other payment that constitutes a payment for participation/attendance at Board Meetings during the year ended 31 March 2012. The Directors are entitled to receive a per diem, hotel and transport facilities if and when they are required to travel overseas on duty. The Directors, their spouses and dependent children are entitled to FOC Business Class travel on SriLankan Airlines online services during their term of office.

I am not sure if he knows the definition of "remuneration" or he forgot to read after first sentence or conveniently forgot to read after first sentence. If it is the latter then it is deception; people like them at the helm of the UL management I could only say one thing...god save this airline.

*Amended at the request of ####; he is afraid UL lynch mob might lynch him; I really do now want that to happen
@#### you really do not need to worry you have been defending your employer very well in face of a firestorm

IMO the whole Mihin Concept is pure rubbish.
I dont think Mihin is that bad of an idea if it is run like a proper LCC (i.e. no food or baggage allowance). Also LCCs require a proper network and a lot of aircraft (and scale) to make it work which would be a big task to achieve.

Thats the problem when Mihin started, it offered the services of a fully fledged airline at budget prices. It's just a giant mess now.

              • SriLankan Airlines launch eco-tourism project with Whale & Dolphin Conservation

SriLankan Airlines has announced the launch of Project BLUEprint in partnership with Whale and Dolphin Conservation, UK.

The airline and wildlife charity will work together to jointly develop a community-based responsible whale and dolphin watching industry off the coast of Sri Lanka and encourage responsible behaviour amongst local boat tour operators.

As well as raising awareness at a community level, SriLankan Airlines will be showing a film by Philip Hoare and Andrew Sutton, on board the flights to highlight the WDC partnership. The airline will raise money for the charity through the on-board sale of plush whales, with all profits going to WDC. The partnership will engage local stakeholders and wildlife tourism industries which will help to fund and promote project BLUEprint.

Sri Lanka is one of the best countries in the world in which to enjoy whale watching, with a variety of blue whales, sperm whales and 25 other cetacean species to be seen. However, these beautiful creatures are increasingly threatened and endangered by a combination of irresponsible, unregulated whale watching and ship strikes.

Yes, you could be right. TK launched nonstop flights to MLE from 24-Nov-2012 with a five weekly onboard A332. IMO that's an aggresive start from TK is the only premium EU airline that to launch flights to MLE in the above aggresive format (with five weekly 1405 Seats oneway). I think TK now considers linking CMB with existing MLE flight gives this route more stability rather than operating terminator flights to MLE.

Someone please shed some light here about Sri Lanka-Türkey Air Service Agreement ?

                    • Etihad Airways is increasing & upgrading flights to Sri Lanka. Colombo will be serviced by daily flights when services increase from four to seven per week starting from January 2, 2013. These increases will coincide with the re-introduction of the Pearl Business class product on both routes to cater for the growing business and corporate demand and high-end leisure traffic.

IMO, UL operating A320s on CMB-BKK-HKG is a bad idea and they better look at flying nonstop to HKG with A330s. Btw, When I met a CX-staff in BOM few weeks ago, he told me that CX is planning to fly nonstop to CMB in 2013/2014 when UL join the Oneworld.

Any idea why UL is keeping aircraft on ground most of the time - https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...91564820_n.jpg
