It looks like 4R-AIA operating for Intercity Airways out of Karachi. http://aviation-safety.net/database/...e.php?var=7883

              • Can anyone else outside lk use 4R? I thought it's only lk that registered for 4R

                • at Umedha, according to that link, intercity airways a/c is registered as 4R-AIA and shows a/c country of origin as Sri Lanka (the flag is shown), but the a/c is now used by someone else, and yes 4R is Sri Lanka country rego and no one else uses it.

becz may be i'm wrong, i faintly do recall a Gulf air a/c used by someone else or the other way around, the original country rego was worn by the new operator of another country.....again this actual scenario is very cloudy to me, but i do remember something like this

                  • and according to the link, pakistan is shown as the location of the a/c

                    • @4R-ALA: yea sometimes it happens, it happens according to the lease agreement....dont u remember 3 yrs back UL operated a leased 767-300ER under a Portugeuse reg: CS-TQI

                      • matter of fact, a few N registered planes were used by Philippine Airlines, for convenience sake, and when 9W leased their planes to TK, TK didn't bother to re-register ..

For countries with good safety record, the registration doesn't matter much. .. for those countries jittery of the operator/lessor, then the screws tighten up

Just like a lot of ships registered in Liberia, Malta, Sierra Leone .. etc.

Not illegal, but generally, Flag carriers want to make sure their planes are in their national registry ..

there are a 100 ways to avoid it though ..

PS: the previous UL Caravan for Amphib ops was TC-TUB !!!

I hope UL stops being so cheap at least after they join Oneworld. This is not appropriate for an airline that intends to be in the same wagon as BA and QR

Has UL gone completely mad? I'm sure it would take less time to walk to TRZ from Colombo than to fly with a stopover in the southern tip of Sri Lanka. This is ridiculous.
