Will it be additional or will they retire any of its current fleet?

Hopefully this will mean a large number of Donkeys get fired from the Airline.

Was this an agreement with the previous government ? Why don't they merge the 2 & both operate as Sri Lankan Airlines ?

According to press, 4R-MRF is an additional aircraft to the Mihin Lanka current fleet which includes single A320 and couple of A321s. This lease agreement of A319 (valid for 2015-2017) was signed by the previous government.

I think Dhaka, Lahore and Seychelles could become profitable destinations for SriLankan Airlines. Do you think SL Government could close the Mihin Lanka without merging Mihin Lanka with SriLankan? What will happen to Mihin Lanka's existing fleet if they merge or close? Yesterday I spoke to Mihin Lanka employee who said Mihin Lanka will be operating as normal until April 2015 , and SriLankan and Mihin Lanka are still in the talks to findout what to do with this useless airline (Mihin Lanka).

Aviation industry specialist Peter Hill has been hired as a consultant to National Carrier SriLankan Airlines for one year.

Need to get a new restructuring strategy for UL.

UL & MJ is in a terrible financial state since 2007 !!

If its only a two year lease then it should time well for it to be replaced by an A320/1NEO in a few years time.

I don't think there's a market to any of these places - the huge losses at Mihin seem to confirm they are losing money on all the routes. This is why a comprehensive audit is needed.

There is speculation surrounding the Seychelles and the opening of a branch of a Sri Lankan Bank there. This also needs to be fully investigated.

Without more public funding Mihin will simply go bankrupt. There are laws covering this. The aircraft will go back to the leasing companies. I'm not a legal expert but I think this is a far cheaper option for the GOSL.

There must be figures available that detail what the various options are going cost. Enough public money has been wasted already imho.

I'd like to see figures for HRI published as well.

Yes it would be far cheaper but it would make aircraft leasing companies reluctant to deal with UL or any GOSL related entity since they would have a 'black mark' against their name if they did that. And I've also heard there may be guarantees given by the government or associate banks against these aircraft.

Wrong. I don't know about Seychelles, but Dhaka is doing incredibly well. I fly on that route about 3 times a year and it's always performing very well. Lahore on the other hand can be developed with the right frequencies. Lahore in general is pretty underserved (due to the political situation in Pakistan) and there's good opportunity for connecting flights to South East Asia/Far East. High risk though

Flights between CMB and DAC operate at almost full capacity through out the year......its near impossible to get an empty seat during the peak season.

May be that's why Mihin Lanka is increasing the frequency of flights to Dhaka from 5 to 6 weekly effective Summer 2015. Does Mihin has sufficient demand for business class in the Dhaka route? I am quite surprised still Biman hasn't launched the Colombo route but Mihin Lanka is looking to add Chittagong, Kathmandu and Ho Chi Minh City to it's network in year 2015.

I don't know how well Business Class can sell because the demographic that flies between Colombo and Dhaka are primarily price-sensitive passengers. However, there is a relatively large and wealthy Bangladeshi upper class that Sri Lankan/Mihin can tap into, especially if Sri Lanka is promoted more aggressively as a tourist destination. The proposed Bangladesh-Sri Lanka FTA coming into effect might drive up the Business traffic even more.
