  • UL wet lease 4 of it's brand new A330 - 300 to PIA to cover up the penalty cause by the cancellation of the A350's. Also the current A330-200's still have leasing time until April I guess. So it's a good move to wet lease for 6 month rather than parking at the bay for nothing at all.

      Actually they are given that the A330s were apparently leased for over 30% more than the market rate. Probably one of the more sensible decisions made by UL management in recent times.

      Both governments have been piss poor in their management of UL although I can't see why you would even bother defending MR's management of UL. If MR had kept EK in, we wouldn't be in this mess.

Mr. Wickramaratne said that on Thursday the IMF had a progress meeting on the status of the airline along with NSB, which is coordinating the financial advisory to restructure it and financial and transaction advisors – BNP Paribas and KPMG. “The IMF, as is the practice, had an airline specialist for this meeting.” He added that the airline’s ground handling unit will be valued separately. “Going forward, we’ll be separating this unit,” he added.

        Okay !! Which Middle East carrier expressed interest in managing SriLankan? Every body knows ANA & Hainan are leading applicants so far.

          If the report is true could be either QR or EY (speculating as they are the only carriers who are investing on other airlines). With Al Baker's negative comments on UL during his visits could be EY.

            Almost certainly EY. They have invested in quite a few carriers recently that have not been performing well.

              They haven't also shied away from investing in carriers that have an extremely problematic past like AZ.

                So far their investments are mixed bag with AB still being a basket case but other airlines such as Air Serbia (former JAT Airways) actually performing well after coming under Etihad's wing.

                    Yes I wonder the same ! What they are going to do for replacement aircraft when 6XA332 and 2XA320 retire from the fleet next year? There are less chances these 3 brand new UL A330-300s would come back to Sri Lanka from PIA. New PIA is interested to take over these birds.

                      all these routes were previously operated by the A340-300, so they are probably trying to maintain the number of seats on these routes rather than decreasing the number of seats by deploying A332s and A321s

                          As per Colombopage :
                          4R-ALN has been wet-leased to PIA on ACMI basis. The aircraft will remain under SriLankan registry and be flown by SriLankan's pilots on behalf of PIA, on the "Premier Service" routes between Pakistan and the UK for a period of three months. Currently, SriLankan is in negotiations with PIA with regard to leasing a total of three A333 aircraft on "dry-lease", without crew, in the coming months. This is part of the company�s "red to black" campaign to bring the airline back to profitability by exploring all commercially viable avenues.
                          Most likely the lease agreement for 4R-ALN will be upgraded as Dry-lease for 10 years and for the same 10 years period, 4R-ALL & 4R-ALM will be dry-leased to PIA. No chances these birds would comeback to UL.

                            Which aircraft they will be using for Qatar, Saudi, Kuwait etc.. after 3 X A333s have been leased to PIA this year and 6 X A332 have been retired from the fleet from next year? Then they will remain with 4 X A333s and rest are narrow bodies.

                              Based on the above table UL are wet/dry leasing the three oldest A333 to PK.

                              Are all the 4 remaining A333s the 242T HGW version?

                                As per http://www.srilankan.com/en/flying-with-us/fleet 4R-ALO/P/Q/R are the 242t MTOW version. I'm glad that these are the ones that'll stay in the fleet.
