The airline is in talks with Airbus and Boeing but has yet to decide whether it will purchase or lease the aircraft. "We are looking at a possible blended approach, where we own 25% and lease 75%," said Chandrasena. In the meantime, SriLankan is taking used A330s from lessors including Air Lease Corporation and International Lease Finance Corporation. http://www.flightglobal.com/news/art...-a330s-362829/

          • UL should seriously look at leasing few A333s to replace their aging A343s.

A333 may not be able to reach some of their European destinations without penalty, but it may still be cheaper to use them even with penalty given the difference in fuel cost.

Yeh the above link says that they are tossing up the A333 and 773ER as potential A343 replacements and that a decision is due in a while.

              • Kingfisher Airlines is cancelling Kochi – Colombo and Thiruvananthapuram – Colombo service, effective immediately.
Although schedule listing indicates these flights to be resumed from 16DEC11, reservation on and after this date remains closed. Meanwhile, Thiruchirapally – Colombo service will see schedule changes from this date.

                • 4R-ALH is coming from the lessor ILFC. Delivery to SriLankan planned in December 2011. I heard another A330 will be joining our SriLankan fleet by March 2012.

BTW here is the picture of 4R-ALH. This picture was taken on the 15th November 2011 in ZRH. More of the 4R-ALH pictures are on the way ...

                    • Thanks Banu for the picture.

This addition of A330 is a real suprise for me.

There were no discussions at all about this Aircraft before.

                          Around 6 to 7 years old - http://www.planespotters.net/Product...n-Airlines.php

4R-ALH had an engine test run on Nov 15.

Do you know about the configuration of the new A330?

I found this post from UL Facebook page "the plan is to change our A340 fleet to 777's only ... A330's will be there roughly 6 777's will be added by 2014-2015". I would prefer the B777-300ER as the best long haul aircraft for UL.

The UL Facebook page that you're quoting, is a fake one. As far as I'm aware, they have not selected the 777s yet. It's still open for both Airbus and Boeing.
