    oh ok, thank you.

Did 4R-ALQ come back to CMB 22 feb as UL168 as yesterdays NRT and today early morning to LHR are all delayed over 4 hours - I'm assuming is because 4R-ALQ is still in COK (due to some tech issue?)

Aircraft orders at UL have nothing whatsoever to do with the requirements of the Airline. It's all about Commissions for the Politicians and their cronies.

Given the previously posted load factors on the Melbourne flight - my guess is that it is a money loser.
A350 is a great aircraft. Having spacious cabin and having able to operate long range SriLankan Airlines would have offer a great service to passengers while keeping European destinations and making the routes profitable. But for the politicians none of those benefits matter. Getting their revenge over opposition at whatever the cost it takes is more important for them. SriLankan Airlines is really in a very sad situation.

really? profitable you say??? Well if the ordered aircraft could be profitable then why do you think UL could not sublease them???

If UL would have taken the aircraft they would be stuck with UL for 15 Years

Issue is not Aircraft...issue is the cost at which is been ordered

If UL could not make any profit on A332 (which are extremely lower least cost compared to A350s) on FRA and CDG...how does A350 which are more expensive to operate would generate profit???

            • SriLankan Airlines CEO Suren Ratwatte speaks out

Exactly three years ago, in the month of February 2015, SriLankan Airlines had just received a new Board of Directors. The airline’s ambitious expansion plans were in jeopardy. The rapidity with which the Gulf carriers could add capacity to Colombo had not been anticipated. Fuel prices were still at near-record levels. The brand-new Airbus A330-300 aircraft, with best-in-class on board product, ..

People are still making the mistake of thinking UL is a Business. It does not resemble a Business in any way.

It's not a simple matter of changing a few staff and/or getting a few different aircraft and everything will suddenly turn profitable. There is no way out of the hole they've dug for themselves.

It is impossible for UL to ever make money - it makes no difference what they do.

That is why the IMF will have this shut down in the next few months.

As expected the IMF has given the GOSL the choice between closing down the Airline or closing down the country.

I see they've also expressed concern about the health of the banks that have lent money to UL. ( TIP:- Get your money out of these banks ASAP ). More losses for the taxpayers coming up. Taxpayers will have to eat these loans.

Not sure why they are talking about restructuring - there's nothing to restructure.

                  - 12 year leases at above market rates with no termination clause is the main reason for the increased losses. No way out.
                  - 4 A350 still to be paid for. Looks like another contract with no termination clause. No way out.
                  - Under the current leasing arrangements more aircraft = more losses. Still more aircraft coming. No way out.

Even the local papers are playing along with the fantasy that there are still options.

When you read about the GOSL giving "letters of comfort" what that means is that the people of Sri Lanka are liable for the losses.

It's not all bad - some people have made $$ Millions. Others have a nice cushy job with a huge salary and bonuses for doing absolutely nothing.

I'm surprised it's lasted this long.
LOL, same was said to Pakistan five years back and PIA is still not sold.

Most of the statements are somewhat correct or mostly lies. Shameless person. Why can't he grow up and stop saying lies? I don't think that he will ever resign from his position, except only to sit and talk. There is not much improvement in SriLankan at all even after so much talk. The airline is still sturggling in a bad state, as many of you know.

Wonder how long will this be going on for.

The only European destination that justifies being kept is London, the rest were money losers, getting a bigger aircraft will only make matters worse.

If European destinations such as FRA and CDG were such a success we would have had airlines clamouring to fill the gap vacated by UL.

The whole thing has reached the point of absurdity; The government wanted a committee to scrutinize why the EK management failed before the election (I am sure a small child can tell anyone what happened), Now they want a committee to scrutinize the Nyras restructuring proposals. Who in this committee is going to have super expertise beyond the restructuring experts advice? Mr. Ratwatte perhaps?

You have to read the article several times.

Suren chooses his words very carefully. A lot of half truths, omissions and outright lies.

Pretty standard for Suren - sadly the journalist doesn't try to pin him down and no mention of his termination by the Board. Or his Rs 10 Million Bonus. Would be nice to know if he got it.

The whole thing looks carefully scripted - nothing but propaganda imho.

I get it that as CEO you need to put a positive spin on everything - but the way Suren does things destroys his credibility .

According to the papers April is the deadline - was also mentioned in Ajith Dias's letter to all the staff in December.
