              • * Sri Lanka national carrier to be revitalized with action plans proposed by Nyras Aviation Consultants

May 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka's national carrier, SriLankan Airlines has begun a number of effective initiatives for the development of the airline, taking into account the responses given by the airline's section heads on the 10 proposals submitted by the world renowned Nyras Aviation Consultants, SriLankan Airlines Chairman Ranjith Fernando said.

Accordingly, actions are being taken to make changes in some flight routes in order to prevent massive losses the airline is incurring, the Chairman said.

He added that discussions have been initiated with the relevant companies to obtain concessions on the monthly leasing charges of billions of rupees for certain aircrafts.

He said that discussions are being held with banks and leasing institutions to obtain relief for high interest rates on loans obtained by the SriLankan Airlines.

The Chairman said following extensive discussions with the section heads on the ten proposals, special measures have been taken to uplift the airline.

                    • This is why EK (or anyone else with a right mind) will never touch UL again!

In an interview with Business Insider, Emirates Airline president Sir Tim Clark has revealed the lessons learnt from buying into Sri Lanka’s national airline – its only foray into equity ownership – and why they refrain from making anymore equity investments in other airlines

                            • I have heard that Singapore's SilkAir is going to change its brand to "Singapore Airlines" soon. It will be nice to see B737s operating in Singapore Airlines livery at Colombo during the day time.
