              • Mihin Lanka signs distribution agreement with Abacus International

Abacus International, Asia’s leading revenue partner for airlines, announced a new agreement with Mihin Lanka, the low cost carrier of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

Through the agreement, Mihin Lanka provides Abacus-connected travel agents access to the airline’s entire published inventory of flights and fares.

Operating from Colombo, Mihin Lanka offers scheduled services to various destinations in the Indian sub-continent, the Middle East and the Far East regions, and plans to expand further with flights to Manila and additional destinations in the Indian Sub-Continent during this Summer 2012. They are also looking to add additional aircraft in their growth efforts across the region.

The agreement, which takes effect 13 February 2012, provides Abacus-connected agents full access to the most up-to-date routes and fares from Mihin Lanka.

EK may already be liable to pay AUD500K each for the two curfew violations that they have already committed in SYD, so they must have figured out that a gas stop in CMB is a lot cheaper alternative; financially and reputation-wise.

Good revenue for CMB and my guess is that we will continue to see this happen (albeit sporadically) if CMB could continue to turn the aircraft around in under an hour, as they did on the first occasion.

It actually seems to be ISB-LHE-CMB-LHE according to PK schedule.

                          • Today, at least 34 Kingfisher flights - six from Delhi, five from Mumbai, 18 from Bangalore and five from Hyderabad - have been cancelled. On Monday, the airline cancelled 30 flights; half its flights from major metros were cancelled or delayed on Sunday. Internationally, flight operations to Bangkok, Dhaka and Kathmandu have been shut. Colombo, sources say, will be shut down shortly. Of all Kingfisher Airlines international services, only the London flight is presently operating.

                                Mihin goes for third aircraft

Mihin Lanka will acquire an additional aircraft. This will be the airline’s third aircraft. Mihin Lanka CEO Kapila Chandrasena said they are hoping to fly to new destinations with this third aircraft.

“The airline is planning to lease an A321 aircraft which could accommodate 220 passengers,” he said.

“We are now on the lookout for a new aircraft,” he added.

He said the budget airline is hoping to fly to Manila and Bangkok with the new addition.

Sri Lanka has the ‘fifth freedom right’ from Thailand to fly to Manila and this will be exploited by Mihin to launch flights to Manila.

“We have around 600 seats per week to Manila from Bangkok,” he said. “Thailand is an important market for Sri Lanka in terms of an airline hub and tourism. The airline is looking at a thrice a week frequency.”
