AND parked outside on Echo bay. ANB and ANE are in the 747 hangar awaiting maintenance. They should resume work on it soon as ALO is also completing A checks soon. Both NE and NB are without engines parked outside the hangar.

Technical Meeting Conducted by Boeing Company on B777-9 Operations at Bandaranaike Airport

As Boeing B777-9 (Passenger) commenced production with a flight test currently underway and will enter into service in the mid of 2025, a technical awareness session was conducted by Boeing Company at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on 08th April 2024.

The session was conducted by Mr. Richard Vaisvila, Lead Engineer, Airport Operations, Boeing Airport Operations Engineering.

The design of the B777-9 combines the proven performance of the B777-300ER with the latest advanced technologies of the B787, including a 4th generation composite wing. In order to balance the aerodynamic efficiencies of an Airplane Design Group (ADG) VI wingspan during flight with the airport compatibility of an ADG V aircraft while on the ground, this aircraft incorporates a folding wingtip (FWT) mechanism.

The new configuration results in economic and environmental improvements over today’s B777s. Additionally, this B777 derivative improves on previous derivatives by also minimizing the costs and impacts to airports through the addition of the FWT.

Chairman Eng. Athula Galketiya, senior officials of AASL and Sri Lankan Airlines attended the awareness session.

I see Easyjet A320SL also registered under same rego OE-ICG. Is it true 4R-ABQ going to become OE-ICG? I am pretty confused.

ATR is being scrapped at Ratmalana. I heard it wasn't a really reliable aircraft for them, and also given its' age. It's already in pieces and some parts have already been sold off. The fuselage is all parted out and kept on a stand. I will try to get a picture soon.

                      • AASL recently had successful negotiations with Indigo to commence flight operations between Jaffna and Chennai, India. Accordingly, Indigo will commence direct flight operations between Jaffna and Chennai from June 1, 2024 onwards with daily flight operations. This connectivity will boost travel and trade in the Northern Province, strengthening the cultural and religious bonds between the two nations”, Eng. Athula Galketiya, Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Pvt) Limited (AASL) said.

Good to see 2nd daily International flight for JAF. Can see Jaffna listed in Indigo website but reservations not ready yet. Which aircraft will be used for Jaffna flights? Any update on extending the runway at JAF?

Thanks but sorry to know ATR is being scrapped. Does Fitsair have plans to get 50-70 seater-aircraft to use for domestic and regional flights?

No any plans for regional aircrafts, specially turboprops.
