A new parallel runway 02R/20L was built, to the east of 02C/20C, currently used only by Republic of Singapore Air Force aircraft as part of Changi Airbase (East). The new runway is expected to be extended and eventually be turned into a third runway for the airport in future expansion plans.
Changi is on reclaimed land, and if they decide to merge the new third runway to the current terminal / infrastructure, well, they got a lot of space to play around with ..
Oh, when recently somebody asked the Changi Operations Group CEO whether there is enough space to park the SIA planes, his response was crisp : planes make money in the air, not when they are parked .. so based on growth and expansion, sure .. we can accommodate them unless they decide not to Fly
For Some idea on the available space ..
The space in Green is the current SIN, the area in Red is the new Runway, already in Operation as an AF Base, and if needed, to be merged into SIN !!!
