If I am not mistaken runway width for VCBI is 45m. I think it will be better if they extend current runway lengh to 3,500 m, when they do a resurfacing. 3,500 m will support A380 to do a confortable take-off.

              • Privately, I am a bit miffed to see the increased publicity for MRIA, all over the internet and travel print media, when logic says, you need to sell the concept to airlines, not end users .. yah, the end users may ask flights to go to MRIA, but after all, isn't the airlines who have to see the value of a new airport ?

Well, Advertising $ at work I guess

                • why so many 340s in HRI ? are they being parked or doing the CMB-HRI tour bus service ??

                  • As far as i know:

Longest A340 flight in the world: Singapore-Newark
                    Shortest A340 Flight: Colombo-Hambantota

                    • SriLankan and JKCS launch Evinta at BIA for shorter check-in time

In view of reducing the traffic at the airport check-in counters, SriLankan Airlines and John Keells Computer Services (JKCS) jointly launched "Evinta Hand Held Check-In" at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA). Evinta Hand Held Check-In is a landmark IT innovation introduced by John Keells Computer Services (JKCS) for SriLankan Airlines Ground Handling Services.

The new technology allows SriLankan ground agents to come to the passengers, carry out the check-in process and print out boarding passes from a portable printer within a matter of a few minutes.

SriLankan Airlines, Head of Information Technology, Chamara Perera said, "Hand Held Check-in has allowed our staff to reach the passengers at the airport to serve them better and quicker. Thus, it has favourably enhanced customer experience, which is reflected by the increasing popularity of our services at Bandaranaike International Airport. Hand Held Check-In solution has also benefited SriLankan Airlines with its advanced set of technologies that consists of simple features for end-users.

LOL sorta wish UL would get some ATRs to operate this route and other regional routes to India and Maldives. Would make more sense IMHO. Could also operate them in an all economy config (although it might then be in competition with MJ).

                        • Hello Sakith, I heard that you are now working at HRI. Could you please tell us how is the passenger load factor for Mattala Airport Arrivals and Departures ? I heard UL is planning to start CMB-HRI-JED ?

yep im here for 3 months. transit loads are great between MLE and BKK PEK PVG. some days there are like 50-60 pax disembark frm HRI. but joining loads are quite low for some sectors like RUH, ul 273 will be terminated from 23 of jun and ul going to start HAJJ flight UL1281 (stricktly for umra pax to JED),, im not sure about domestic pax are allowed on that flight. im very keen to know that because im sheduled to fly on 7th from CMB - HRI but if they dont allow normal pax between cmb-jed on ul 1281 then domestic passengers will lose 1 more day frm CMB-HRI. at present shedule only THURSDAY and SATURDAYS UL Dnt operates flighs between cmb-hri.. FZ flies daily.....

yep, but the E145s come cheap, for now, if not they are not worth the trouble.

I would rather see an ATR or Dash 400. Oh wait, the SLAF does have MA60s which can do the same, but with a lesser safety record
