Exactly - all these projects are about the side deals and kickbacks to your Corrupt Politicians.

They just want their payoff - they don't care if anything actually gets built.

Bottom line - no terminal of any kind anytime soon!
Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find this business

This is controversial. Why only south Indian cities? Does any airlines choose this route than Katunayake BIA. Interesting! and don't know how this will affect to National Security. However TNA demanded this. So cabinet will give approval. After this step they will definitely ask to remove Airforce base too.

If that’s the case, then les hope to see SpiceJet’s Q400 and Indigo/Air India’s ATR’s at JAF soon

I do hope this doesn’t end up like Maldivian’s plan to fly to RML from MLE which never materialized simply because AASL and Srilanka Customs weren’t ready at RML to facilitate international flights

Why this is controversial? This airport has been operation before the northern civil war and what is the issue on National Security?

Some clown build an airport in deep south in a middle of a jungle and that's ok?

it is not "ready" they did not want RML to compete against CMB...a "union" thing

                      • New Runway for Velana International Airport MALE

Male International airport is getting a new runway with Chinese assistance.

This came into light when recently when an Air India flight mistakenly landed on the runway being constructed.

So what is our government still doing about the BIA ? There is only "talk" of the new terminal now for years. Nothing seems to be happening.

Also a new 2 km bridge connecting Male Airport & Male city has been constructed also with Chinese assistance.

The 80mm AC25 asphalt concrete surface is expected to be completed within a month, according to the state-owned Maldives Airports Company Ltd.

Any possibility CMB can have a second runway parallel to the current runway ?

Maldives is building a new runway adjusting to the existing runway and the existing runway will be converted into a taxiway this will increase the runway capacity and eventually the airport capacity. Also they are constructing a new terminal to accommodate the increasing the demand with 6 aerobridges. I saw this few weeks back at the airport.

I was speaking to one of the BIA staff about the new apron. He said that the ground is still being digged. When is the completion date of new apron?
