Let me repeat : looking a tthe circumstances, and UL's future plans and capabilities : the best bet for UL to replace the 340-300s is the A330-300...it will fit nicely into the current bays at Katunayaka and also UL can get a good deal from Airbus + commonality with engines cockpit etc so no long training or conversion to Boeing.

Also, it is not that simple for Airbus or any other manufacturer to just "start" a prodn line for an out of prodn airplane...will make sense only for a reasonably large order for 10 aircraft or more...I dont think ULwill be ordering more than 4-5 planes to replace the A340s so this "restarting the production line" idea will not happen. As I said earlier the best bet for UL is the Airbus 330 model 300. the 345 will be an even worse option than the 777-300ER since it is not at all fuel efficient.

A330-300 best bet for ULs fleet, but planes must be delivered after 2014, so that you get the new HGW version of this plane which will make year around CMB-NRT/LHR possible.

The 346 is technically not "out of production" but it makes no sense for any carrier to order it at the same time. The ones I can see purchasing it in the next couple of years are the same airlines that have them in their fleet and are looking at topping them up for the hot and high conditions they serve in - SA and LH and perhaps VS come to mind.

SriLankan would do well to do a direct upgrade from the 332s and 343s in their fleet over to the 359, and persist with the 320/320 NEO series.

Don't you think adding Boeing would be costly for UL due to Training, Aircraft Parts ?

Hey Guys, Here is another surprise visitor at CMB ? Any idea what is that A320 parked behind the CX B74F ?

@umedhah - Thanks for the picture. Please tell us when this picture was taken ? Date and Time ? I hope you wouldn't have noticed the aircraft-reg as it is parked far from the terminal and it's dark.

I spotted on the 27/28th Dec 2012 there was an Indonesian airline named "Citilink" was delivered to CGK via SHJ-CMB. That was PK-GLM in green livery : http://xfw-spotter.blogspot.co.uk/20...irways_17.html

Hey Banu - i took this pic on the 30th of Dec 2012 around 2230 - 2300 hrs, looked like it had an orange strip at the back of the tail. Similar to IndiGo but slightly different.

                        ....

From the above, does it look like I am recommending 777-300ER for SriLankan ? Simple english and common sense says I am not.
You don't like anybody opposing your views, do you ??

The way Airbus builds planes, they don't need to 'start' a production line for any of the 330/340 series - never mind .. maybe I am starting to dig myself into a deep hole there ..

Yes, but that doesn't help answer the question of "where is the mega buck to buy a 773W?

and to do some belated clarification ..

yah, and again, in case you also missed the point .. a 773W will cost a mega truck lot of money vs the 330/340 - money which I can't seem to find in UL's business plan .. add in the cost of a new type, Certification, support .. etc. etc. etc.

Has anyone saw the below aircraft in CMB on 1/2-JAN-2013 ? It's an Indonesian Domestic Airline "Wingsair" which took the delivery of ATR72 (PK-WGH) on the 2-JAN-2013. Ferry flight of PK-WGH operated on the route on "TLS-PFO-MCT-CMB-BTH.

For a moment, I thought that it's interesting that a Dash 8 can from TLS .. as the picture is that of a Dash 8 !

And I am 100% sure that BTH was NOT it's destination ..

Anyway, if it is the Wings Air of ID, it is a subsidiary of Lion Air ..
