for shorter sectors, turbo props actually are faster than jets .. simply because they reach cruising speed faster, and don't need to reach higher altitude to reach optimum cruise ..

Within the region, there are a lot of ATR/DHC flights, ex: Singapore-SZB- Firefly, SIN-Tioman DHC 7 ...

The SIN-SZB, lands smack in the midst of KL, and eliminates the need for the long transit from KLIA ..

Yes heard that MJ is looking at doing that operation.

When did PS actually cancel this route? I was under the impression that they were continuously operating this route

PS launched Colombo for a winter-seasonal service and it operated until 26-March-2011. The airline had a plan of continuing the seasonal service to Colombo in Winter 2011/2, but that got cancelled in early August 2011.

Good to hear Mihin Lanka interested in Kiev route. It sounds like Mihin Lanka will fly Philippines, Vietnam and Ukraine as Mihin's fleet appears to be currently being underutilised. I think MJ should fly MNL and HAN or SGN via BKK . MNL two weekly. HAN or SGN two weekly. KBP route can be operated via DXB two weekly. Correct me if I am wrong :-)

                • Can MJ manage all those Routes with just 2 Aircrafts???

                  • Mihin will probably get more aircraft soon Id assume. They need to expand, at the moment theyre way too small for a LCC.

                    • Entering long haul routes with their present cost structure would very probably make them bankrupt for the second time.

                      • A Sri Lankan airlines flight which left Colombo for Bangkok yesterday, had to return back to Colombo after facing a technical glitch, the airline said. Sri Lankan flight UL 422 returned to Colombo just one hour after it took off last morning. Officials said that they were now probing the cause for the glitch in the Airbus flight. http://www.thesundayleader.lk/2011/0...-faces-glitch/

                        • It was originally scheduled for an A340 which departed at 0727 and returned at 0831. Was then flown by ALG with a delay of almost four hours.
