The only "fact" in the article is that there are negotiations taking place.

The rest is just more of the usual "Sri Lanka Big Talk BS".

Negotiations have been going on for years - without result. That tends to happen when you sign a contract without a termination clause.

Airbus aren't going to do UL any favours after the last A350 fiasco. 3 of the A350s are still sitting in Toulouse.

This looks like a Billion Dollar order - even if they somehow manage to renegotiate this order they'll still have a Billion Dollars of aircraft to pay for. How are they going to do that?

I have my doubts about the "negotiations". Wouldn't surprise me if this is BS as well.

Agree Nyras needs to be tossed out ASAP - what a waste of money!

Yes, they had one. They still use it, but its curently flying for FitsAir in Indonesia in another registration.

        I think UL should take 3- A350.
With old A330s UL cannot survive for a long . Lots of customer complaints for OLD 330s in SKytrax for specially long haul routes

Actually there are two in Toulouse. MSN 60 is now flying for Sichuan Airlines and was delivered on the 8 of August...

The new A333 are leased at such high rates that it is impossible to make money operating them.

There is no point in pouring more money into UL - no way to ever make this profitable.

@rami - thanks for the update.

How are the visa formalities though ? Any restrictions to Russia ? are transit visas required etc ?
Austrian Airlines, Thomas Cook and Neos Italian Airlines have cancelled the plan of flying to Colombo Airport during Winter 2018

Maybe a couple of A220'S (Bombardier CS200's) would do for Short Haul to South India (VNS,TRZ,GAN,HYD,VTZ and IXM) and a few A321LR's would do for longer range flights

But then again, UL should look to cater to the domestic market as well and add on a few ATR's or Q400's

However apparently GoSL has a stupid policy in place limiting each carrier to operate a maximum of 3 variants of aircraft... This further restricts growth of UL since they're narrowed down to just the A320 Family and the A330 series

This surprises me too, I was under the impression that they'd acquire more ATR's for domestic usage
They like UL have completely lost the plot which is why carriers such as Cinnamon and Senok are gaining at the loss of FitsAir

Ever since their MD82 was returned, they seem as if they are running around in the dark

                        • What a disaster! The only thing left is bankruptcy imho.

Now they need to investigate the loan from UBS in Singapore - what conditions are attached to that?

Hopefully the lease deal with Aercap will also be fully investigated.

Still plenty more to be revealed.

                          • (Colombo) AFP: Sri Lanka’s national carrier will launch a new search for an equity partner after the IMF warned the loss-making airline was dragging the country’s economy down, officials said Wednesday. ..

The same flawed strategy being rolled out over and over again! Delusional thinking.

Nobody wants this - you couldn't even give it away! It's impossible to make money as Due Diligence will quickly reveal.

Surprised the IMF is allowing this to continue - they will force a shutdown at some point.

                            • Looks like both Banks are insolvent. No chance of getting their money back imho.

I hope nobody has their money in either of these banks

SriLankan's Melbourne flights have been delayed today for some reason?
