Which small aircraft is going to replace those four A350-900s?SriLankan Airlines to swap Airbus A350s for smaller planes

Ideally they should get at least a few A330 800/900 NEOs to replace the aging 332s. Either way, the Govt will have to pay the total cost committed to AB for the 4 359s and the negotiations probably are about what combination/numbers of "smaller" aircraft UL will we get for this price.
A quick calculation based on the 2018 list prices as per Wikipedia, 5 A330-800 NEOs will cost the same as 4 A350-900sLast edited by leyland; 24-08-2018, 05:14 AM.Comment

The only "fact" in the article is that there are negotiations taking place.SriLankan Airlines to swap Airbus A350s for smaller planes
https://economynext.com/SriLankan_Ai...3-11622-6.html
The rest is just more of the usual "Sri Lanka Big Talk BS".
Negotiations have been going on for years - without result. That tends to happen when you sign a contract without a termination clause.
Airbus aren't going to do UL any favours after the last A350 fiasco. 3 of the A350s are still sitting in Toulouse.
This looks like a Billion Dollar order - even if they somehow manage to renegotiate this order they'll still have a Billion Dollars of aircraft to pay for. How are they going to do that?
I have my doubts about the "negotiations". Wouldn't surprise me if this is BS as well.
Agree Nyras needs to be tossed out ASAP - what a waste of money!Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find this businessComment

With old A330s UL cannot survive for a long . Lots of customer complaints for OLD 330s in SKytrax for specially long haul routesComment

Actually there are two in Toulouse. MSN 60 is now flying for Sichuan Airlines and was delivered on the 8 of August...The only "fact" in the article is that there are negotiations taking place.

The new A333 are leased at such high rates that it is impossible to make money operating them.
There is no point in pouring more money into UL - no way to ever make this profitable.

Maybe a couple of A220'S (Bombardier CS200's) would do for Short Haul to South India (VNS,TRZ,GAN,HYD,VTZ and IXM) and a few A321LR's would do for longer range flights
But then again, UL should look to cater to the domestic market as well and add on a few ATR's or Q400's
However apparently GoSL has a stupid policy in place limiting each carrier to operate a maximum of 3 variants of aircraft... This further restricts growth of UL since they're narrowed down to just the A320 Family and the A330 series- Aaqib Hussain

This surprises me too, I was under the impression that they'd acquire more ATR's for domestic usage
They like UL have completely lost the plot which is why carriers such as Cinnamon and Senok are gaining at the loss of FitsAir
Ever since their MD82 was returned, they seem as if they are running around in the dark- Aaqib Hussain
