      Another contingent leaves to Nepal

Another Sri Lankan contingent of aid workers with equipment and supplies left for Nepal to join their counterparts in the relief and rescue mission currently underway in the earth quack hit south Asian nation. According to army sources the 97strong team is comprised of 72 army, 14 navy and 11 air force personnel. The group is taking along a consignment of 17 tons of supplies including much needed medicines, water bottles, dry rations, water purification tablets etc.

The contingent took flight to Nepal from the Bandaranaike International Airport onboard a Sri Lankan Airlines flight (UL 4195) at around noon today (29th Wednesday, April 2015). Already a Sri Lankan team is involved in relief and rescue operations in Dolalghad area about 60 km away from the capital Kathmandu. Hundreds of victims including women and children have been treated by the Sri Lankan personnel so far.

Representing the government's interests Hon. A.H.M Fowzie, Minister of Disaster Management and Mr Daya Gamage, UNP National Organizer joined the contingent aboard the Sri Lankan Airlines flight.

Sri Lanka in quick response to the tragedy in the South Asian nation sent an initial emergency rescue and relief contingent comprising of 44 military and 4 civil medical personnel to assist in the relief and rescue operations on Sunday. The 7.8 magnitude earth quack hit Nepal on Saturday (25th).

The SLAF aircraft which took the first team of aid workers returned home yesterday bringing in a group of 42 Sri Lankans left stranded there.

According to this source, John Kerrys will be visiting Colombo on the 2nd May 2015. Any chance to see "Air Force One" in Colombo? Did "Air Force One" ever flew to Colombo in the past ? http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2015/04/241144.htm

John Kerry does not us AIR FORCE ONE, that's only used by the President. Kerry uses an old US Airforce Boeing 757.

Mihin Lanka, the budget airline arm of SriLankan Airlines would continue and the airline would take delivery of two more aircraft by the end of the year.Chairman SriLankan Airlines, Ajith Dias, speaking to Daily News Business at the Sancharaka Udawa exhibition at BMICH on Friday said that the airline under their route expansion program would soon add Kolkata to their radar.

"We will also increase flights to Dacca very soon." He however said that they would not have any stopovers at the Mattala Rajapaksa Airport as its not a viable venture.

He said that Kathmandu in Nepal too was in focus but was currently being delayed due to a technical issue. (This was prior to the earth quake that struck its capital on Saturday)

Everyone was blaming the misfortune of UL on MR and his transgressions, but the new government has done nothing of substance to change the status quo.

Instead of the BIL of the president, now it is run by PM's buddy from school days.

They still have most of the same people and certainly the same policies.

UL should be fully privatized or sold completely. That is the only way to stop hemorrhaging.

I was also thinking UL should be leasing couple of B777-200ERs for London LHR route. Unfortunately It appears to be it's not practically possible to get Boeing to the UL fleet due to their financial situation. I think UL better maintain the A320s, A332s & A333s until they return to profit-period when they can think about adding some A350-900s. Frequency of flights have to increased to London where they have 11 slots at the moment but only 7 slots currently being used by UL if i am not mistaken.
