Aeroflot was planning to buy it but looks like the debt of Transaero is too much and they cancelled the deal .Transaero is going bankrupt, I remember reading somewhere they will cease operations in December this year

Thanks bro for the update. Is Aeroflot making profit now? Any possibilities Aeroflot resuming direct flights to Colombo? I think Russian Economy is currently struggling that's why SriLankan also cancelled it's flights to Moscow earlier this year.

Should the Government run an airline?

The famous President of American Airlines, C. R. Smith said “These days no one can make money on the goddamn airline business. The economics represent sheer hell.”

While he made these remarks on the financial condition of airlines, the most legendary joke of all was probably by Herb Kelleher, the founder of Southwest Airlines, the most financially successful airline in the world, “If the Wright Brothers were alive today, Wilbur would have to fire Orville to reduce costs”.

Jokes aside, running an airline is a risky business. Individuals, companies and governments have collectively lost billions of money over the years. Nowadays, few airlines make any money at all, with the exception of low-cost carriers. Given the spotty track record of airlines world-wide and Sri Lanka’s own experience, should the governments run airlines and continue to support struggling SriLankan Airlines.

Looks like Aeroflot is planning to merge its subsidiaries

Aeroflot's management has been tasked with drafting the necessary additions to the Group's Strategy and Long-Term Development Plan for 2016-2021. "The Group expects to generate synergies of several billion roubles from this combination, driven by product improvements and an expanded customer offering," an official communique said. Announced following its most recent boardroom meeting, the Group will move to a new operational structure comprising four companies which, aside from the new Rossiya operation, will include Aeroflot's mainline operations, LCC Pobeda (DP, Moscow Sheremetyevo), and the Far Eastern carrier Aurora (HZ, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk). Russian media outlets have indicated that Aeroflot is reportedly considering amalgamating a bankrupt Transaero into the Rossiya umbrella carrier. Though Aeroflot's takeover offer has now expired, Transaero will continue to operate its own flights up to December 15 with Aeroflot and its subsidiaries providing assistance where needed.

Its actually owned by Airbus and used for testing new aircraft. Clicking on the MSN/cn number in the photo confirms this.
