Actually if the government retains the profitable ground handling unit whilst selling the loss making airline, its a good thing. That said I dont see anyone making a bid for UL without the ground handling unit. Ive heard rumours that Ground Handling and Catering generated the most profit even during the EK era.

UL is planning to sublease ALL, ALM, ALN to PIA which was started bidding two months ago to acquire Widebody aircraft on wet-lease. I heard ALN didn't meet the delivery requirements of PIA but it's under consideration. It seems to be these 3 x A333s are to be wet-leased to PIA for short-term with ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintanance and Insurance). It looks like SriLankan is starting a leasing biz in the industry.
Does anybody know when ALL, ALM, ALN joining PIA fleet?
Rumour has UL already sub-leased the first A350 (MSN52) to other operator. It makes sense Airbus has now painted the MSN52 all in white. UL now negotiating on sub-leasing the other three A350 (MSN55/60/171).
Another rumour : 3 x A330-200s (ALA,ALB,ALC) are going to retire from UL fleet beginning of 2017 and they are planning sub-lease 3 x A330-300s (ALL,ALM,ALN) to other operator.
Even if they take the delivery of MSN55 & MSN60 this year they can't continue CDG & FRA with only 9 Widebody Fleet. 3 x A330-200s (ALD,ALH,ALJ) and 4 x A330-300s (ALO,ALP,ALQ,ALR) are going remain in the UL fleet. Before It was expected the delivery of MSN171 to UL in end of 2017.Comment

So srilankan airlines will end up narrow body aircrafts and old A332 I'm really disappointedUL is planning to sublease ALL, ALM, ALN to PIA which was started bidding two months ago to acquire Widebody aircraft on wet-lease. UL will still operate 4 x A333s (ALO, ALP, ALQ, ALR) in the fleet. It's only ALL, ALM, ALN going to be wet-leased to PIA as a temp-replacement for their retiring A310s & for Hajj charter. I heard UL have extended the lease term for all six A332s so they will be in the fleet for some time if iam not mistaken. If the lease terms really have been extended for A332s, It's better UL give full furnishing for all A332s with new seats/cabins. UL is looking at adding more A320/A321s to the fleet with new aircraft delivery of 6 x A320s and 4 x A321s are to begin in 4Q of 2017. Their target is market is now India and Far East.Comment

Guessing its something to do with the size of the aircraft? Also PIA probably wanted to lease newer aircraft (if Banu's rumour is accurate). Smart bet for UL now that no A359s are joining would be to phase out the 3 older A332s and refurbish the rest of them in line with the A333 fleet.Comment

Didn't the Gov of Pakistan close down\or closing down PIA and replacing it with a new airline? Is the lease intended for the last days of PIA or the new airline?UL will still operate 4 x A333s (ALO, ALP, ALQ, ALR) in the fleet.
