I guess Srilankan should consider Adis Abba (ADD) in the destinations list asap.. As we know ADD is the hub as far as African aviation is concerned.. if we want to tap growing African market for outbound tourism..then this is a must.. it is just a 6 hrs flight

if any case SriLankan unable to schedules a dedicated one.. then they at least try extending the CMB-Victoria (UL707) to ADD

Ethiopian Airlines was planning to operate regular flights to Colombo Airport but its never been materialised. Few years ago it was planning to operate passengers flights on ADD-BOM-CMB. Last year, ET was advertising on its website its going to fly cargo flights to Colombo Airport but it didn't happen too.

ADD is dominated by Ethiopan Airlines. ET is the biggest Airline in Africa with a vast route network. Not many foreign carriers fly to Ethiopia.Nairobi and Johanesburg is preferred to ADD.
Lots of Chinese flying to ADD and JNB.

                11.11.2019 - 15:51 UTC

As it posted a first-half net loss trimmed by 11.6% year-on-year to USD76 million,*SriLankan Airlines*(UL,*Colombo Int'l) said in a statement posted on its website that it was forging ahead with its turnaround plan.

The airline said it would expand its presence in the Australian market with a new route to*Sydney Kingsford Smith*in 2020, launch a new service to*Ho Chi Minh City, and continue to plot a return to*Frankfurt Int'l*and*Paris CDG.

The cut in losses was achieved despite an overall decline in passenger and cargo revenue following the Easter Sunday terror attacks. However, revenue in the second half of the year "is projected to increase significantly with the enhancement in operations by SriLankan and customer airlines", the carrier said.

The decline in revenue was offset by a greater reduction in operating expenditure due to cost-saving initiatives, as it relocated its corporate offices in Colombo to existing space in Katunayake, the site of*Colombo Int'l*Airport. Negotiations with state banks to reduce interest rates are ongoing, the airline added, and consultations continue with its major shareholder, the Sri Lankan Ministry of Finance, to seek withholding tax exemptions.

The Sri Lankan government said in August that it planned to sell a 49% stake in the flag carrier and would try to attract foreign investors by assuming some of its legacy debt.

SriLankan also reported in its statement "a noteworthy improvement in fuel performance" of its neo aircraft. The carrier currently possesses two*A320-200neo*and four*A321-200neoamong its fleet of 27 aircraft, which also include five A320-200ceo and two A321-200ceo, seven*A330-200s and seven*A330-300s.

UL need to upgrade it's aging A 330-200, A 320 ,A 321 if it wants to be competitive. I think UL should consider Airbus 330-NEO, A 321-XLR , Boeing 787 or Airbus 350 in future purchases. They are better on fuel savings and has modern cabin upgrades.

Does anybody know how many passengers were onboard Alliance Air's maiden schedule flight to Jaffna on the 11-Nov-19. Hope the route will become successful.

I wonder why Jaffna flight booking is not available on Air India/Alliance air website?

well it was not that bad to commence the first flight...

According to Sri Lanka Civil Aviation Authority Director-General H.M.C. Nimalsiri, the first Alliance Air flight landed at Jaffna Airport last noon with 12 passengers on board. “The same flight left for Chennai at 12.45 p.m. with 35 passengers,” he said.

i'm sure nos will soar up..

                          wrt to reservation..

“People can reserve their air tickets from respective websites for various promotional offers or through ticketing agencies. Visas should be obtained from the Consulate General’s Office under the Indian High Commission in Jaffna. The duration of air travel between Jaffna and Chennai is 32-50 minutes,” Nimalsiri said.

SriLankan had also paid a sum of 17.058 billion rupees as compensation for revoking leases of four A350-900 aircraft.

SriLankan was in talks with Airbus SAS to change order for four other A350-900 aicraft to be delivered in 2020 and 2021 and replace them with A321NEO or A330NEOs.

So far 2,528 million rupees (19.21 million dollars) had been paid to Airbus as a pre-delivery fee, the Auditor General said. (SB-Colombo/Nov14/2019)

Haven't they changed the four A350 order yet? These A350s supposed to be delivered from next year.
