I wonder why GoAir need approval again to operate scheduled flights to Colombo. GoAir is already have the Foreign Air Operator Certificate and used to serve Colombo before the lock down.

Hi Aaqib, Any idea why news is saying GoAir need Approval Again?

since airports have re-opened from the pandemic, no airline is operating their historical slots. any airline to any airport are operating on fresh slots hence is in many instances globally approvals have become purely political

Any idea is it better for UL to fly DME as a nonstop flight or via DXB or MLE?

I wonder what happened to the previous plan of Aeroflot flying SVO-CMB from 31 Dec 20?

Can you guys suggest suitable destinations for SriLankan Airlines after lock down?

Hi Umedha, What do you think of SriLankan Airlines flying CMB-MEL-AKL route ? Do you think there is a demand on this route for SriLankan Airlines?

Unless UL can get fifth freedom rights on those routes, a direct non-stop would be wiser. If UL is planning an A320/21 service, a technical stop in the Middle-East will be a must. UL did have something like that back in 2011-13 before they operated non-stop A330 services till 2014.

I'm pretty sure Aeroflot/Rossiya will be back as soon as things become more normal. I flew on both SVO-CMB and CMB-SVO on their B773s back in 2019, both flights were full and I noticed a lot of transit passengers from the US and mainland Europe.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has approved over 20 charter flights to bring in tourists in February and March.

The new approvals are for flights operated by Ukraine International and SkyUp from Ukraine and Air Astana from Kazakhstan.

Of the approved, 12 are by SkyUp which was the first to arrive under the pilot project of Ukrainian tourists late last month, five by Ukrainian International Airlines and six flights by Kazakhstan.

NZ has no high commission for Sri Lanka. Closest is in Australia. I don't see any regular flights happening to AKL soon. ? The flight your friend mentioned, was it a repatriation flight?

UL resumes direct flights to Frankfurt to boost tourist arrivals

Sri Lanka welcomed the first group of tourists from Germany and Switzerland last week (January 21), flown in by national carrier SriLankan Airlines, which resumed direct flights from Frankfurt, after a lapse of more than four years.

The Frankfurt-Colombo route was resumed with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Germany, promoting the island nation as a safe and secure tourism destination.

According to a statement issued to the media, the visit was arranged by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Berlin, in collaboration with Sri Lanka Tourism.

With the flight that arrived last Thursday, SriLankan Airlines is scheduled to operate two direct flights per week to increase tourist arrivals from Germany.

“Being the second highest tourist arrivals market from Europe, this will be a significant point to increase businesses in the German market,” the statement said.

Earlier this month, the Tourism Ministry said it was in discussion with SriLankan Airlines to resume services to Frankfurt, Germany and Paris, France, as the two are considered key hubs for the Europe region and direct flights would help increase arrivals.

I can see below destinations in SriLankan Airlines website as per passenger inventory system.

Are all these schedule flights or repatriation flights?
