Jetstar hints at expanding operations to Sri Lanka. The new crew rest area will give Jetstar a potential extended range, opening the possibility of direct flights from Australia as far as India, Sri Lanka or Africa.

Fitsair hope to start operations to Dhaka and then more south India routes starting with Trichy in January.

There are also plans to extend reach from within Sri Lanka. “Jaffna in the north is an underserved destination,” Hill said. “We're in the market for A319 at the moment and if we are able to get one, I can start services up to Jaffna and beyond into southern India,” he said.

We either have to get ourselves the new narrow-bodies or we have to look for a wide body. But I would say that's a couple of years down the line.”

Need a huge upgrade to the Jaffna airport if passenger jets are coming to there. at least a Code 4E runway. Probably Fits 8D will lease a A330 for Jeddah flights.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has announced in his budget speech that he has allocated Rs 2 billion to construct another international airport at Hingurakgoda (Minneriya).

                  Really?

I think its in maintenance. Hopefully all widebody fleet are active by the end of Dec23 as UL is planning to increase NRT from 4 to 5 weekly, SYD from 3 to 4 weekly and to resume PVG 2 weekly flights from Jan23.

EK, EY and the Adani Group are among prospective bidders seeking a stake in SriLankan Airlines

The national carrier’s restructuring process phase 1 has ended with the closing of bids for the divestiture of the debt-ridden national carrier and the selection of prequalified bidders’ is now underway.

UL carries a debt of US$ 1.2 billion to various organisations including local state banks, accumulated unpaid fuel bills, outstanding payments for international bonds and leased aircrafts, and an accumulated loss of Rs. 594.4 billion.

The privatisation of UL is to be finalised by June 30, 2024.
