Sri Lanka - South Korea Air links Expands
Sri Lanka & South Korea has liberalized an air services agreement allowing traffic rights to third countries which is expanding air links between the capitals of the two countries, the foreign ministry said.
A new air services agreement had been signed on February 20 allowing Korean Air to fly to Maldives and back via Colombo & SriLankan Airlines to operate to Seoul via Hong Kong.

SriLankan to Lease 6 New A330 aircraft
The Government will lease six new A330 aircraft for the national carrier before the end of the year.
Civil Aviation Minister Priyankara Jayaratne, on Thursday, said that SriLankan was going through a phase of modernisation and it would gradually phase out its ageing fleet with six brand new A330 aircraft.
The Minister said that the airline would stick to leasing Airbus as local engineers and maintenance staff were already trained and adept with the particular brand.

I think it is best that SriLankan go for the A330s, it will be more cost effective, no need to retrain crews, and no need to outsource maintenance as they already service Airbus aircraft for themselves and other airlines.
To me switching to 777s does not make commercial sense.
They can still service the US and Canada with stops en route in Europe.Comment

its good that UL is sticking to Airbus rather than shifting to Boeing!!! plus in my opinion i don't think that there is much traffic between SL and US!!! hence A333 is a more viable option, but if they are to operate to US its better to have a stopover in LHR or FRA!! but again i don't think there is much profitable traffic from SL to the US, hence UL should consider relaunching direct services to Australia!!! Australia has an enormous amount of Srilankans and the A333 is a very viable a/c to Australia which would be highly profitable for the airline.Comment

Hello friends, At last they decided it should be "Air bus' that we already experienced.But, Can nowadays A333 to fly to LHR SYD or Tokyo without any attempt(I mean non stop)? Bcz Air Bus says their newest A330-300 edition will entry to service in mid 2015.Comment

Starting March 9, Korean Air will commence the direct service three times a week.
Flying from Seoul first to Colombo & then onto Male.
The Seoul-Colombo-Male flights will operate every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Flydubai & Air Arabia to Start Mattala Operation from 2013
UAE based Flydubai & Air Arabia have agreed to commence operations at Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport once the Airport is declared open from March 18 confirmed Minister of Civil Aviation, Priyankara Jayaratne.
Although the dates of commencement had not been announced as yet, the minister said that negotiations are currently underway to get them to operate from the new aircraft terminal.
