For the sake of stopping the spread of misinformation - per my knowledge, the aircraft in subject has not gone through any major incident of the kind rumoured here. As you may know, a major accident needs to take place for an aircraft to be written off - and such a major incident (eg: recent Asiana crash, the Ethiopian fire incident) would obviously not go unreported and can hardly be hidden.

I would say SriLankan should split BKK-China route and focus on growing market like China with nonstop flights. They can use double daily A320s to BKK.

Yes, Tigerair is pulling the Singapore-Colombo service from 1st Sep 2013. It looks like Colombo is unprofitable destination for Tigerair which recently rebranded from Tiger Airways. After Tigerair pullout from Colombo service, Full service carriers i.e. double daily SriLankan Airlines, Single Daily Singapore Airlines, Four weekly Cathay Pacific and Single Daily Emirates will serve Singapore-Colombo route. I think SriLankan has to take advantage of the Tigerair's announcement so we upgrading the Singapore flights from narrow body to all widebodies would be a better idea?

Aren't they interested in Hong Kong -> Colombo -> Male' -> Hong Kong route ? Cathay never served nonstop schedule flights to Colombo except those seasonal flights.

Top travel award for SriLankan Airlines

SriLankan airlines has been given an award for special services to tourism in the Indian Ocean at a regional hospitality event of a global tourism award scheme.

The World Travel Awards held its Indian Ocean ceremony in Maldives earlier this week where SriLankan received the new award.

"As an airline it is our duty to provide our passengers with convenient connections across the globe," Saminda Perera, regional manager for Sri Lanka and Maldives, said in a statement.

"This will certainly serve as an inspiration to expand our connectivity and role in time to come."

SriLankan Airlines was nominated for the award by the Ministry of Tourism of the Maldives and The Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation.

Air Mauritius won the award for the Indian Oceans Leading Airline, Maldive’s Coco Privé Kuda Hithi Island was named the leading new hotel, One&Only Reethi Rah the leading resort and leading luxury resort went to Gili Lankanfushi.

The best way to stop the spread of misinformation is to provide factual information. So, what really happened?

UL does not own the aircraft, so it is not their decision to scrap it.

It's not a better idea you compare the quad engine aircraft with twin engine as A340 consumes a more fuel than the A330. A330 has become a favorable choice for most of the airline and it worth we keep them for a longer period of time.

We can compare with 4R-ADA with other active A340-300s. Best examples coming to my mind are these : Turkish Airlines TC-JDJ/K (MSN23/25), Lufthansa D-AIGB/C/D (MSN24/27/28) etc.. I am sure even more older A340s are still in service with other airline. I recently heard Philippine Airline leasing a few ex-Iberia A343s to serve the new routes. A340 has some demand in the aircraft-market due to A333's range limitation.

SriLankan Airlines has to maintain the aircraft properly. If they are not afford to upgrade the interiors on older birds they should stop using the older birds on long-haul route, where passenger expecting facilities like working PTVs etc.
