Emirates was strong in itself , i dont know why they chose to partner with Qantas!! Emirates has great connections to Australia and new zealand , I think it's Qantas who is desperate to join with emirates!

Both Emirates and Qantas wants the partnership to be signed after tie-up of rivals Etihad and Virgin Australia. Currently Emirates flies to 5 points in Australia that includes Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth but Emirates wants that presence to be increased by operating 14 Weekly flights to those 5 cities in Australia with new partner Qantas. Additionaly Emirates will reach other 53 domestic points by using Qantas metals. Loss making airline, Qantas also looking for partnership to lower costs and to avoid the losses on International Routes especially on Europe route, where most of the airline making losses due to Euro-zone crisis. Qantas presently flies to London and Frankfurt in Europe. Frankfurt route will be cancelled effective Apr 2013 but a number of flights to London will be unchanged however the London flights will be operated via Dubai instead of Singapore, as Dubai to snatch a role of focus city from Singapore. Emirates will get benefited as Qantas passengers will book on Emirates flights to Europe, Middle East and Africa.

SIN: Tiger Airways will move to T2 from the Current LCC terminal
And there is some concern about the EK / QF tie up - as as of now, QF has a lot of heavy metal transiting Singapore .. and that QF tails may reduce in number if QF moves the base to DXB !Comment

SQ used to sub the A345, regularly, for SIN-CGK, as revenue flights ...
Though for A380, they did do a few twice daily SIN-KUL, as touch and go / land and go .. non-revenue flights, for crew familiarization - including the full cabin crew ..
TG is launching BKK-SIN-BKK flights, soon, on A380, maybe for the above reason .. but as revenue flights ..Comment

Definately QF will reduce SYD-SIN from fourteen to seven weekly, MEL-SIN, SIN-LHR and SIN-FRA will be cancelled but QF may keep the frequency of PER-SIN as unchanged. Does SQ has any expansion plans on handy due to QF's SIN frequency reductions ? BTW I heard BA will continue operate the SYD flights via SIN.Comment

Banuthev: There is a daily BA/QF code-shared flight - maybe BA will beef up their frequency ...
Of course, don't forget that between SIN-Australia and KUL-Australia, more choices are coming up, on top of TR-Australia's Darwin Haul, Air Asia Express (D7) as well as Scoot ..
Praetorian: in your opinion, if Singapore stumbles, does that mean business will move to Colombo ??
I see business moving from Singapore to KL or JKT, none that i can recall moved to CMB ..Comment

I just read on the Australian Newspaper, BA may cut its remaining daily flight once its partnership with Qantas is dissolved. I believe BA may codeshare to SYD rather than using it's own metal.
It will be interesting to see what changes EK and SQ to bring on SIN-DXB route ?Comment
