It's a great time to go spotting at LHR! Within the last few weeks, the arrival of the 787 and the A380 must have been a very convenient photo opportunity for all spotters in London. Any idea which routes BA will use their new A380s on?

What happened with Asiana Flight 214?

Asiana Airlines Flight 214 originated in Seoul, South Korea, destined for San Francisco. Here's what we know about Saturday's crash landing.

This is almost certainly pilot error. While at first some said it looked similar to the crash of BA 38 at Heathrow, I do not think it is a repeat of that incident. Judging by the circumstances, and the lack of experience that the Captain had on the Boeing 777, it seems very likely that the pilot made an error in those final moments. The ILS was down at SFO, and even though the weather was clear, the plane was much lower than it should have been. A report has now come out from one of the pilot's saying he saw "a flash of light" on approach... I don't know how much of an effect this would have had, but I do not think it would make the plane come this dangerously low? Unfortunately, Asiana also has a history of pilot error related crashes. With such a modern, reliable jet like the 777, I cannot forsee technical issues as being the cause of this tragic accident.

Dave, any idea where did they divert the LHR flights during the runways closure? I think ET got fire when it was parked in the ramp next to Terminal 3, if I am not mistaken.

Umm.. Are you referring to Iran Air (IR)? I can find the Iran Air flight schedules in Amadeus without problem.

@4R-SRD - Please check if you can view Iran Air (IR) flights in your GDS system? check route i.e IKA to DXB

Diverted flights went to Gatwick, Stansted, but not that many, runways were only closed for a short time.
Several local short hauls were cancelled...
Plane was parked at a remote spot, having arrived in LHR at 6.30 am Friday..

Worth noting the 787 that caught fire was in fact the first one back in service after the battery problems !, a little ironic i think.

They say they don't think it is the battery this time. The fire came from the back of the plane, while the 787's battery is located towards the front. Are we looking at yet another rollercoaster of groundings and tests, or is this just a bad coincidence of an accident?
