I have my doubts about the economic viability of this airport - I'd be surprised if anyone actually steps in.
Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find this business

Looks like the residue of the Lotus design on the roof is still left? The rendered design shows some changes to the existing pier roof structure, does that mean the existing pier is also being refurbished or redone?

            • The runway is running at about 60% capacity and a new runway is under construction. The choke point is terminal capacity. In the next month ground will be broken on a new terminal which will be a welcome relief.

Captain Suren Ratwatte, SriLankan Airlines’ Chief Executive Officer, talks about the competitive threats and what he intends to do with the freer hand his government is giving his management team.

              • Riding a deluge of Chinese financing, Sri Lanka’s Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport was meant to become the country's number two airport and act as a catalyst for development in the region. But it hasn't yet worked out that way. With only one or two flights per day, the airport hangs on the verge of being swallowed up by the jungle that surrounds it.

So that means construction work for new terminal starts from next month?

Is this a misquote\misreport? As far as I am aware there is no new (2nd) runway planned for BIA ATM? Just the resurfacing of the old one?

2nd runway is mentioned in the Western Megapolis plan it is not connected to the Japanese funded terminal expansion. A new runway is to be built either north or south of the current runway/

Yes I think 2nd runway is not been finalised for CMB yet. It appears to be construction work for new terminal starts next month. Resurfacing of the current runway starts in Jan 2017.

By next month do you mean June (This Month) or July? Has any construction begun at the airport yet?
