I think it's a second time in this month JAL utilised Colombo as a technical stop for Sendai-Entebbe route. Any possibilities whether JAL can make a permanent schedule flight to Colombo? I remember Air Lanka used to fly two Japanese cities in the past. e.g. Tokyo Narita and Fukouka. Currently SriLankan operates 4 weekly nonstop flight on Colombo-Tokyo Narita route.hi.. check the following

This is purely a charter. FUK was for political reasons rather than economic reasons. JL have just come of a massive restructure after a bankruptcy filing. Colombo is a low yielding market I don't think JL would start CMB for the sake of starting. Plus UL and JL are both oneworld partners henceforth JL is better of piggy backing or taking benefit of code share.I think it's a second time in this month JAL utilised Colombo as a technical stop for Sendai-Entebbe route. See below JL and UL code share agreement:
oneWorld members JAL and SriLankan Airlines will commence reciprocal codeshare service, starting 02DEC14. Planned codeshare routes as follow.
JAL operated by SriLankan Airlines
Colombo – Bangkok
Colombo – Male
Colombo – Tokyo Narita
SriLankan Airlines operated by JAL
Bangkok – Nagoya Chubu (from 20DEC14)
Bangkok – Osaka Kansai
Tokyo Narita – Busan
Tokyo Narita – Nagoya Chubu
Tokyo Narita – Osaka Itami
Tokyo Narita – Seoul Incheon
Furthermore UL had plans to increase NRT 5X a week I below this did not materialise.
As per 26NOV12 timetable listing in Sabre, SriLankan Airlines is displaying overall service increase from 4 to 5 weekly on Colombo – Tokyo Narita route, from 13APR13. Planned new service to operate on Mondays from Colombo and Tuesdays from Tokyo.
Reservation for the new flight is not available, while further changes including “cancellation” of the new service is also likely. Schedule:
UL454 CMB2330 – 1150+1NRT 343 x24
UL455 NRT1320 – 1910CMB 343 x35Comment
Will get some good photos and by the way I have a cockpit seat for the Narita landing
