I thought the same. But I'm very happy SriLankan is planning a tidy air-network starting from S14. It's good they are not going to do any PEK, PVG, KUL, MAA and TRZ flights via HRI. Their CMB-HRI-MLE-CMB and CMB-MLE-HRI-CMB makes some little sense which helps tourists in Maldives to spend time in tourism-spots closer to Hambantota by flying via HRI. I think UL need direct flights to Australia, Africa and more destinations in South Asia before they join Oneworld. I will post the UL Summer 2014 network soon.

yeah...that's true........but Banuthev, SYD and MEL by UL wont be re-launched before entry into Oneworld coz a333 are to be delivered from oct 2014 if i'm not mistaken. Plus its good that UL is taking one step at a time rather than hurrying ........after all this way the growth seems moderate, plus it shows every organization grows in its own way after all most airlines cannot even keep up with the pace of EK EY and QR. And yes for UL finance is the biggest issue in comparison to most other airlines.
but i'm very happy regarding UL's non stop flights to china cz the former routing system showed that we were an old fashioned airline.

any updates regarding UL a321's??? i thnk it must be getting AVOD cz its still not delivered.
plus anyone's got an idea of how UL a333 interiors gonna look like.........

            Only a sujetion

To get more transit traffic,I think it's better if UL can fly these flights as below timings.

            UL CMB/PEK/CMB 0700/1615/1730/2300
            UL CMB/PVG/CMB 0705/ / /2250

            UL CMB/PEK/CMB 0100/ / /1700
            UL CMB/PVG/CMB 0105/ / /1655

            MJ CMB/SEZ/CMB 1900/ / /0500+1

Also UL should expand their South Asia destinations plus have more Flights to the existing. The Route network should always consider the below banks.

            ARRIVAL BANKS
            • 2130-2330 Far East,Australia,South Asia
            • 0400-0530 Middle East,Africa,Europe,Australia,South Asia
            • 1030-1130 Far East(SIN/KUL),South Asia
            • 1600-1730 Far East,South Asia

            DEPAURE BANKS
            • 0000-0230Europe,Far East,South Africa,Australia,South Asia
            • 0700-0800 Far East,Australia,South Asia
            • 1230-1430 Europe,East Asia(SIN/KUL),South Asia
            • 1800-1900 Middle East,Africa(SEZ/NBO),South Asia

Korean Air to start direct flights to Sri Lanka and the Maldives

Starting 9 March, Korean Air has launched a direct service flying from Sri Lanka and the Maldives to Seoul Incheon, expanding its network to countries in the Indian Ocean.

Korean Air’s new three times weekly direct service flies from Male in the Maldives to Colombo in Sri Lanka first, and then onto Seoul/Incheon in Korea. The Male-Colombo-Seoul/Incheon flights operate every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Flight KE 474 departs from Male at 15:30 and arrives in Colombo at 17:30; the flight then departs from Colombo at 18:50 and arrives in Seoul/Incheon at 06:10 the next day. On the return flight, KE473 departs Seoul/Incheon at 22:40 and arrives in Colombo at 04:10 the next day. The flight then continues its journey departing from Colombo at 05:40, arriving in Male at 06:40 the same day.

Korean Air’s new Male-Colombo-Seoul/Incheon route is operated with an Airbus 330-300, seating 276 passengers and equipped with Korean Air’s premium seats. First Class has six Sleeper Seats - the 180 degree full-flat beds with an 83-inch pitch and a 21-inch width, guaranteeing comfort and freedom during the flight. Prestige (Business) Class has 18 full-flat Prestige Sleeper Seats with a 78~80-inch pitch and extra-large seat partitions offering comfort and privacy. Passengers in all classes can enjoy the new AVOD (Audio and Video on Demand) system that offers upgraded in-flight entertainment with high resolution and a high processing speed which ensures quick passenger access to entertainment services.

Mr. Chang Hoon Chi, the President and COO of Korean Air, said: “It is a great pleasure for me to announce that Korean Air has restarted its service to Sri Lanka and has also extended the route so that it now flies to the Maldives. I hope that Korean Air’s new service to Colombo and Male will pave the way for an increased exchange in passenger traffic between the nations and create economic benefits between Korea and countries in the Indian Ocean, including with Sri Lanka and the Maldives.”

As channa said earlier, KE is resumed CMB operations in March last year and they are serving on Seoul-Colombo-Male-Colombo-Seoul onboard A330-300.

This is not just a local phenomenon, but a global one.

Some of the aviation related news pieces in respected global media makes me laugh with blatant inaccuracies.

And, they almost always get the file picture that goes with the article wrong!
