Still UL is ignoring North American connecting passengers via ZRH. Even via LHR less than 50% of the flights arriving LHR in late evening missing mid-day north American connections. Lot of Srilankans living here traveling on middle eastern carriers due to this issue of fewer connections.

          @ Kflyer,

SriLankan's Moscow launch is now postponed from 15th Sep to 17th Sep 2011.

Re: UL Cargo - I am surprised when UL-Cargo didnt codeshare on MLE and GAN routes. Any news whether UL get their own frieghters in order to resume cargo operations ?

@Banuthev, no, it has been brought forward to 14th. They are using Expo and Lankan Cargo capacity as stated in the article.

SriLankan's four A332s and two A343s are to be upgraded with flat beds and latest AVOD entertaintment systems in Business class cabin. The cabin-upgradation for A332s (only ALA,B,C,D) will be taking place between August and October 2011 and the cabin-upgradation for A343s (only ADE & F) in November and December this year. It seems to be 4R-ALC already been sent for this upgradation when other aircraft are on the service. (last checked on 06/08/2011)

Does this mean that Economy isnt getting an IFE upgrade? Bad move on UL's part, if this is the case. Any progress regarding new aircraft acquisitions by UL or MJ?

For the first time direct flights between Sri Lanka and Russia will begin from 17th of next month. Minister of Civil Aviation Services Priyankara Jayaratne says Sri Lankan Airlines will conduct flights to Moscow city of Russia on every Wednesday and Saturday. This will be the 52nd destination of the Sri Lankan Airlines. A regional office of Sri Lankan Airlines has also been opened in Moscow city. Aviation sector is considered as one of the most important fields in making Sri Lanka the wonder of Asia. The minister says to achieve this goal the Ministry of Aviation Services have taken measures to increase the fleet of the Sri Lankan Airlines as well as to conduct flights to new destinations. Therefore, the fleet of Sri Lankan Airlines will be increased upto 30 aircrafts within the next few years.

For the first time SriLankan airlines will launch direct flights to Ukraine Kiev city to woo the Winter traffic. The frequency would be three flights a week.

If they go ahead with this plan there is a chance UL could fly KBP flights via DXB with using A320s. On the other hand, UL will need to face the competition with Aerosvit and UIA in the CMB-KBP route, as Aerosvit will be operating 3 weekly and UIA 2 weekly to Colombo, in the Winter 2011. There is a Rumour that UL has plans to increase DME flights daily and the flights are to be operated via DXB. Looks like UL will be re-establishing the secondary hub in DXB.
