Austrian Airlines has begun operations to the country after a lapse of 10 years with the arrival yesterday of the Boeing 767 300 aircraft with over 125 passengers including tourists on board from Vienna. The aircraft was welcomed at the Bandaranaike International Airport by the Transport and Civil Aviation Ministry Secretary Nihal Somaweera. Austria’s Consul General in Sri Lanka Seneka Amerasinghe and Austrian Air’s Vice President Hulfmann Kessinger were also present. -

Excellent news....However sustainability of the route will depend on at least having 80% Load factor....Surprisingly having only 125 passengers on an inaugural flight is not a good sign. Same fate took place with BA operation that lasted only few months.

Yes I'm also worrying about the sustainability of the route... the seat configuration of the aircraft came yesterday is 26 Business Class Seats and 199 Economic Class seats and all together 225 Seats. so if the total number of passengers were on the flight is 125 then the load is about 56% and that includes not only the tourists but the officials came to the inaugural ceremony...

Do you know how many pax were onboard in Biz class and Economy class among those 125 Pax in OS flight yesterday?

To achieve the target Sri Lanka has to develop and promote the tourism to attract high spenders. It will help our aviation, hotels and tourism industry.

Hopefully a sign that things are moving in the right direction:-

Hopefully they will go after Druvi and Pradeepa - both of whom are still employed at UL. There's more than enough in the Weliamuna Commission report to file criminal charges against both of them.

Anyone know if Kapila is still in the country?
Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find this business

I doubt very much...Nishantha has discreetly gone abroad......and Kapila too would have followed...I recollect When the weliamuna report was presented to PM Ranil, with recommendations to file criminal charges for frauds against Nishantha & Board he promised to refer it to Bribery Commission for action. Looks like a deal has taken placed and the looters have gone missing.

                      Exactly!

It goes like "Ok, Now that you have had your fun looting, let us have our fair share too for the next couple of years".

At least under MR, the country prospered. Now SL does not even have that!
