Today, at least 34 Kingfisher flights - six from Delhi, five from Mumbai, 18 from Bangalore and five from Hyderabad - have been cancelled. On Monday, the airline cancelled 30 flights; half its flights from major metros were cancelled or delayed on Sunday. Internationally, flight operations to Bangkok, Dhaka and Kathmandu have been shut. Colombo, sources say, will be shut down shortly. Of all Kingfisher Airlines international services, only the London flight is presently operating.

        Mihin goes for third aircraft

Mihin Lanka will acquire an additional aircraft. This will be the airline’s third aircraft. Mihin Lanka CEO Kapila Chandrasena said they are hoping to fly to new destinations with this third aircraft.

“The airline is planning to lease an A321 aircraft which could accommodate 220 passengers,” he said.

“We are now on the lookout for a new aircraft,” he added.

He said the budget airline is hoping to fly to Manila and Bangkok with the new addition.

Sri Lanka has the ‘fifth freedom right’ from Thailand to fly to Manila and this will be exploited by Mihin to launch flights to Manila.

“We have around 600 seats per week to Manila from Bangkok,” he said. “Thailand is an important market for Sri Lanka in terms of an airline hub and tourism. The airline is looking at a thrice a week frequency.”

I wouldnt be surprised if Mihin announce a Madurai service soon judging by the fact that most of the delegates (according to the above post) are from that airline.

madurai and trichy airports are closeby, about one and a half hours journey between them. hence, it's absolute rediculous for mihin nor sri lankan airlines to consider and ply madurai airport. moreover trichy airport is located equidistant within tamil nadu state making it easier for everyone to travel from the surrounding districts apart from chennai or trivandrum airports. thus no wonder both sri lankan and mihin are having high patronage so much so that they in are fact, planning to increase more frequencies to cope with the demand. hence, in conclusion this sounds more on politics than being potential.

Sir, Madurai is the 2nd most visited place in Tamil Nadu next only to Chennai. A very few places in India only have this heritage value or tourism potential. Above all, there are more than 18 Million people waiting for the first international service. There are family woes that the labor people of Middle east and far east countries that wish to spend their time with their families. I bet we could give 95 percent load once if somebody start service from here irrespective of the carrier.

Recently SriLankan has started utilizing Mihin Lanka's aircraft for the UL routes. e.g. a couple of days ago Mihin Lanka A321 was flying Bahrain route UL215/6. http://data.flight24.com/airplanes/4r-mrc

Since UL/MJ carry out route planning between the two carriers together in order to avoid both flying to the same destination , Mihin Lanka's Trichy flights may be moved to Madurai. http://sundaytimes.lk/120219/BusinessTimes/bt26.html

                        Mihin Lanka may connect Madurai.

I agree, but if Mihin shift their service from Trichy to Madurai.. then it is worth. Already Spice Jet has applied to start Madurai to Colombo flight. I am sure Srilankan Airlines don't want to lose their market to SpiceJet.

TN Chamber pointed out that around 1,200 passengers per week travel from Madurai to Colombo.

Can you provide more information regarding that…..
