Nishantha Wickremesinghe, Chairman of SriLankan Airlines, told the Business Times that they carry out route planning between the two carriers together in order to avoid both flying to the same destination. He noted that Mihin Lanka would be flying to more low cost destinations and in this respect had selected to touchdown at Jakarta, Dhaka, Buddhagaya, Varnasi, Manila and Sharjah.

The budget carrier that was previously operating to Kuwait would be pulling out of this route in a bid to allow SriLankan Airlines to fly in and as a result its shift to Sharjah. Coordination of routes is also carried out whereby Mihin Lanka would fly into Manila that would carry passengers heading for the Middle East via Colombo. And once in Colombo, these passengers would be transported to their destinations on SriLankan Airlines, he explained.

In future, SriLankan Airlines would seek to operate increased flights that would ensure that by the end of next year the airline would operate daily flights to all its destinations. Aircraft would also be increased at SriLankan Airlines from the current 22 to 30 in the future that would eventually result in a young fleet replacing the old stock by 2015, Mr. Wickremesinghe said.

Good news. Mihin should also look at some more short haul destinations such as Lahore, Chittagong, Islamabad, Kathmandu as well as Indian cities such as Goa and Pune, i.e. cities that UL currently doesnt serve.

Mihin Lanka signs distribution agreement with Abacus International

Abacus International, Asia’s leading revenue partner for airlines, announced a new agreement with Mihin Lanka, the low cost carrier of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

Through the agreement, Mihin Lanka provides Abacus-connected travel agents access to the airline’s entire published inventory of flights and fares.

Operating from Colombo, Mihin Lanka offers scheduled services to various destinations in the Indian sub-continent, the Middle East and the Far East regions, and plans to expand further with flights to Manila and additional destinations in the Indian Sub-Continent during this Summer 2012. They are also looking to add additional aircraft in their growth efforts across the region.

The agreement, which takes effect 13 February 2012, provides Abacus-connected agents full access to the most up-to-date routes and fares from Mihin Lanka.

EK may already be liable to pay AUD500K each for the two curfew violations that they have already committed in SYD, so they must have figured out that a gas stop in CMB is a lot cheaper alternative; financially and reputation-wise.

Good revenue for CMB and my guess is that we will continue to see this happen (albeit sporadically) if CMB could continue to turn the aircraft around in under an hour, as they did on the first occasion.

According to OAG , Mihin Lanka starts nonstop flights to Manila from Colombo , starting 23 rd February 2012. Flightstats says that this route to be operated on board A330 aircraft. So When did Mihin Lanka took delivery of A330 ? or Is this A330 leased from SriLankan as per this news - (http://www.dailynews.lk/2011/12/08/bus04.asp). Can anyone shed any light on this?
