Any idea what the replacement aircraft are? A333s?

Also good news on the cost cutting, its long overdue. They also need to reduce the amount of staff in order to reduce costs further (apparently their headcount per aircraft is very high).

Ahem...reducing the staff...that's not the Sri Lankan way...once world bank was funding for a VRS schema in Colombo port...most of them retired after taking the golden handshake...then politicians gave some employment opportunity to some of their "supporters"...then World Bank suspended the project...If I could remember even Emirates offered VRS and one of the employees who accepted the VRS package was Sajin Vas G. but soon after UL returned back to government control; well politicians gave some employment opportunity to some of their "supporters".

      Whatever said wishful thinking though

Actually UL and the other flying object need to be closed down; it is heading same fate as Olympic Airlines or Air India...Colombo Airport and Ratmalana Airport need to be privatized and given to two operators. If the private sector would like to run an airline, then it good for them. Sri Lanka should promote open sky policy. This will result in more airlines flying into Sri Lanka and air fares will definitively come down. Any way this will never happen coz politicians need some Government Corporation so they could appoint some of their relative and "supporters" to key positions.

            Absolutely spot on!

So this is what happens when Politicians run an airline

I am still wondering about the revenue numbers of MJ to JKT (and do they fly to MNL ?) as well as a lot of their exotic destinations ..
Politicians will do anything to please the masses and keep their voter base intact, irrespective of the damage that is inflicted upon the national wealth.

Clergy should be more sensible when making their demands, because politicians are not being worshipped, but clergy are and that level of respect comes with responsibilities.

Imagine the clergy from other religions taking a cue from this and making similar requests!

Recently I came to know that not only ministers or their families, but various people like political appointees to various institutes/their families get very cheap tickets, what they call as government rates on UL. They get these rates for their personal family trips too. Probably a source closer to UL can provide us more info on how much this is affecting UL's financial losses.

Very Happy New Year to all my buddies !!!

I wish to inform everyone that I am planning to open a thread on the name of "Fleet Watch" in our Air Sri Lanka Forum , where you can find up-to-date details of all aircraft that registered under Sri Lanka Civil Aviation Registry CAASL. I would like to know what do you think of this idea before I start this thread.

Share your views on this link : http://www.airsrilanka.org/forum/sho...=2699#post2699

                      Thanks.

Sri Lankan Airlines starts direct flights to Colombo from Kuwait

Passengers will be able to enjoy the non-stop flights coupled with the luxury and comfort of wide-bodied A330 aircraft as they travel to Colombo and beyond.
