It appears that they are going to try, again to lease out three of the new 333s, along with one 332 (which I think is the least old one - ALH).

However, considering that the recent lease of ALN to PK caused several problems, I feel that it might be more profitable to just start more routes, so that all of the available aircraft (and extra staff) can be well utilized...

In addition to the concrete plans to start servicing VTZ, CJB, HYD and MEL, there has also been talk about servicing AMD, SLL, RGN and JNB, as well as increasing the number of flights to DEL, BOM and LHR. So, obviously, more aircraft are going to be needed, anyway.

Also - places like CCJ, MRU, IKA, XIY, and either FRA or MUC would probably be viable, too (personally, I think that MUC makes more sense than FRA due to equally good connection options for passengers from Canada and the U.S. at MUC, while better time-slot options and lower fees are likelier at MUC, compared to FRA).

Anyway, this idea of leasing and re-leasing relatively newer aircraft is a bit saddening.

“The cost for the cancellation of three A350 aircraft are as follows. The deposit placed for the three aircrafts amounting to US$ 7.5 million will be retained by the leasing firm AerCap.
A further US$ 146.5 will have to be paid in eight installments, with the final installment amounting to 56 million. However, there are some conditions if SriLankan Airlines pays the first seven installments without delay. If the lease on an aircraft that we already have – MSN 627 -is extended, and if the lease on the two narrow-body aircraft which were earlier operated by Mihin Lanka is transferred to SriLankan Airlines, AerCap has agreed to cut off the final installment of 56 million. Thereby, the final payment has reduced to 90.5 million”.

Its 4R-ALH and 4R-MRE & 4R-MRD that was extended to cancel the A350's.

SriLankan has now hired a British re-marketing firm to help lease out its surplus aircraft. These include the three A330-300s that were due to have gone to PIA. The other is an A330-200 that SriLankan was forced to hire from AerCap Holdings NV as part of the settlement for cancelling four A350s ordered by the previous government.
