SriLankan Airlines in a statement yesterday denied the Daily FT report published on 24 May 2017 stating that the airline intends to increase ground handling charges by 30%.

It said the reality was that the rates in existence at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) since 1997 would be continuing. What has been initiated however, is a process that streamlines ground handling charges with individual airline as per services defined in the Standard Ground Handling Agreement (SGHA).
No no UL is not increasing any thing just streamlining...AKA management fluff or BS

Herein there would be a few airlines who enjoyed concessions to the published rates based on previous negotiations quoting reciprocity (where that airline provides ground handling services to SriLankan at their home-base and SriLankan provides ground handling services to them in Colombo) having to pay more as a result of such benefit ceasing to exist for SriLankan.
That's because there are other's UL referring to in West Asia and SE Asia have much better facilities compared to CMB

In the same way, there are other airlines that are to benefit with reductions to charges due to published concessions based on volume as well as more services being added.
Yes it is called volume discount. you buy more you get better discount...nothing unusual here

Therefore, it would be grossly incorrect to quote an increase in rates based on a few airlines losing concessions as a result of changes in the business contours.
      AKA management fluff or BS

The fact that ground handling rates have remained unchanged since 1997 is to be noted in the context of SriLankan being the sole ground handler at BIA. Also to be appreciated is the fact that Colombo›s ground handling rates remain [B]competitive when compared with other stations in the region that have the presence of a sole handler.
Yes ground handling charge has remained unchanged since 1997. but UL charge ground handling charges in USD. So let me get this straight who get the benefit of SLR currency devaluation.

and finally you comparing ground handling charges with other monopolies in the region?...that must be very hard compete against right?

      It is also untrue to state that Colombo›s ground handling rates have deterred airlines from operating to Sri Lanka, as the cost considered here is a small share of an airline’s direct operating cost;
it is part of the cost which is handed over to customer ticket including departure tax which is around USD50+ and CPC Jet A1...when you add up all the cost Colombo is very expensive

hence having little or no influence over an airline’s decision to serve a specific destination. Furthermore, Colombo sees new operators commencing services to BIA every season, whilst the regular operators keep increasing frequencies.
Why did the BA pulled out? and except for some West Asian carrier who are uplifting fuel from home base there are almost nil any European carriers operating to CMB

Editor›s Note: Daily FT stands by its report.
      So does the readers

What is the flying hours between CMB and MEL on the nonstop flight?

I think the SL president was in Australia couple of days ago. May be approval for the CMB-MEL route has been signed but no sign flight schedule and booking on the internet yet.

                        Any update haleef?

Very recently I was reading the news about SriLankan Airlines. It tells SriLankan is going to have 14 x A320/1 aircraft and 10 x A330 aircraft by the end of this year. Do you know the rego of 4 x A330s are going to leave the fleet this year?

Also a couple of news websites says SriLankan hasn't sold the slots of Rome, Frankfurt and Paris. They have plans to return Frankfurt.

This will be a good move since the most of the europeans are keeping away from turkey and Egypt due to political issues and which are huge markets for tourism.
