      Mihin Lanka to begin flights to Myanmar?

      Foreign airlines have planned to resume flights to Myanmar since a year ago in wake of changes in that country.

      Relating to Sri Lanka's Mihin Lanka, it was reported last year that it would extend its wing to Myanmar, coordinating with a Myanmar travel company for launching the direct flight service between Yangon and Colombo.

      The two sides were expected to sign an agreement during March 2011 for Mihin Lanka to make the move but fruitless.

        GF is reducing the number of flights for off-peak season , between 5-May - 9-June 2012. Arabian Aerospace Blog reported , Aviation analysts are warning that GF could be losing the fight for survival following a decision in the Bahrain parliament to reject a $1.75bn bailout to rescue the ailing airline.

          well, seriously, if there are enough STOL runways, I see no reason for seaplanes in Sri Lanka, other than for novelty factor.

          Knowing the load factors (a friend flew to Weligama - he was the sole pax, on departure, 2 pax got out, and on arrival, he was met by 2 pax - makes sense to kill it off I guess

          or put back the wheels and fly the Twotter in it's natural land based guise ..

          • The airline observed that they would continue the service but there would be a different type of aircraft or operation and that they have no plans of terminating the service.
          • G.T. Jayaseelan speaking with the Business Times said they were likely to change the method of operation from the current wet lease to a dry lease agreement.
          • Currently, the airline is operating for a period of nearly two years and it was uncertain whether the national carrier would enter into a joint venture with a private operator as these are currently under discussion, Mr. Jayaseelan said..

              Max: as of now, PH Immigration is refusing to confirm the visa on arrival for Sri Lankans .. apparently they started for Indians and Pakistanis but decided to can it .. no points for guessing what could have prompted them to change ..

                        Philippine Air & Mihin Air services agreement

                        A services agreement between Philippine Air & Mihin Air, which would include direct flights to each other’s base stations, was being pursued at the highest levels.

                        Acting External Affairs Minister Neomal Perera told The Island that the visiting Philippine Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Erlinda F. Basilio, with whom he had held bilateral talks in Colombo on Monday, responded positively to Sri Lanka’s proposal for the Philippines national airline to enter into a services agreement with Mihin Air, which would include direct flights between the two countries’ capitals.

                            Sri Lankan passenger numbers to Melbourne rising

                            Growth areas continued to include China (31.2 per cent), Taiwan (24.6 per cent), Sri Lanka (21.5 per cent) and Hong Kong (10.3 per cent).

                            “It was pleasing to see growth across so many of our markets in April including emerging markets in China, Taiwan and Sri Lanka as well as our more traditional markets such as the USA and New Zealand,” Melbourne Airport chief executive Chris Woodruff said.
