UL Chairman said to Sunday Times in Feb 2012, UL and MJ to carry out route planning between the two carriers together in order to avoid both flying to the same destination. I am not anti-MJ but I didn't understand why Mihin Lanka want to fly Delhi which is already served by SriLankan.

What Flight Number? Glad A6-EGO still wearing title of "1000th 777" in rear-fuselage.

According to Flightradar24, A6-EGO once again visiting CMB today (16th Sep) as EK348 at ETA 13:30 ETD 14:55. With no doubt CMB is a profit making destination for EK who is increasing the use of B777-300ERs for most of CMB flights while only EK652/3 be operated by B777-200s replacing A330-243s in W12.

I think that's because of the T20 World cup. All the teams and ICC staff using EK. Btw,all the flights to CMB are full these days. Emirates trying really hard to increase aircrafts for CMB-DXB route but as far as I know the government won't allow. (as a part of preventing the national carrier)

I live in DXB and fly the DXB-CMB-DXB route once a month, mostly in J. As of the last few months almost all the flights I have flow have been full, including packed F class. I am struggling to figure out why this is. T20 can only be half the reason. J class is always full.

Ah yes the failed stratergy of "protecting" the national carrier. This is why Colombo airport wont grow

Yes! The demand is higher on DXB-CMB route. The Government won't increase the flights and they won't allow other airlines to increase either. The staff passengers who use sub load tickets have no chance.

Actually, I meant "protecting" instead of preventing. My bad! Btw, you're correct. The government has to fix it asap. Unless the passengers are in really big trouble.

If CMB is to grow as a hub both passenger and aircraft volume must increase, and be allowed to increase. Government makes all the noises for "hub status" yet holds onto retarding policies for stupid reasons that in turn denies this goal. Sigh.

If UL can't compete on it's own, then thats ULs fault. Trying to control the competition by running monopolies is what causes all round failure which in turn is why UL remains as a mediocre airline and CMB a mediocre airport.
