Great achievement, and a credible award too (unlike SkyTrax!)

This shows that despite all the shenanigans, UL still has a lot of potential.

Ok, Mea culpa! It appears that SkyTrax manages Passenger Choice Awards.

Still it should not take away from the good work done by UL here.

Thai AirAsia Cancels Bangkok – Colombo Service from Oct 2012. Thai AirAsia starting 01OCT12 is cancelling Bangkok – Colombo service, as reservation for the three weekly flights is closed for travel on/after this date. The airline reduced service on this route from daily to 3 weekly in June 2012. http://airlineroute.net/2012/09/21/fd-bkkcmb-oct12cxld/

Uthum, I believe FD and TG were finding difficult to compete with UL who is doing well on CMB-BKK route by operating 21 flights a week, while CX, TG & FD operates with less than 4 flights a week. UL also giving tough competition to KU on a CMB-KWI route (UL flying Daily Nonstop to KWI on A343s). In Early September KU planned to reduce the CMB frequency from 4 to 3 weekly in W12 but now Rumour says KU is planning to terminate all the CMB flights.

Ul needs to take these opinions (and rankings into account). Then again when you have a morons like the aviation chairman (prasana something) in positions of importance, good luck. In a lakbima article from last year where the reporter mentioned these rankings and the negative comments (mainly around cmb and the fact it has no ranking) his response was "these people who say bad things are enemies of the country" hikz.

                What an attitude.

Anyway this is the latest review from skytrax of ul:

<<"both flights outbound and inbound (uae to colombo) did not offer any in-flight entertainment for 4.5 hours of flight time. In fact the outbound flight from colombo did not have tv screens in economy class at all, in business class (where i was sitting), i had screen but it was not working properly. Crew offered me a heavy portable media player! It had maximum of 10 movies to select from, and was annoying to keep on my lap.
                ">>

i believe from the lack of inflight equipment he flew on 4r-alh.

Why is the fleet so haphazard? Alh was a "new" acquisition as well.

Serndib, this is just 1 A330 (4R-ALJ) that has new inflight systems for both J and Y class.

It's a great picture though, anymore around?

I think 4R-ALB has it too. I saw it from a Documentary movie.

Air India formally inducted the world's most advanced passenger aircraft Boeing 787 'Dreamliner' into its fleet, top airline officials said Air India will be operating flights with the Boeing 787 on selected domestic routes like Delhi-Kolkata, Delhi-Bangalore and Delhi-Amritsar and medium international routes like Delhi-Sri Lanka.

I would assume Air India is want to train the pilots/crews on B787 on short/medium sectors before they go for long hauls. However Air India B787 would not touch down in CMB this time because Air India does not operate schedule flights on DEL-CMB sector.

Can 4R-ALJ do the CMB-BKK-HKK sector? I know that it's lacking a galley so can't do long haul routes, but a "re-fill" at BKK should solve the problem? This sector (and onto mainland China, Korea and Japan) is very busy and very profitable. If UL is to tap into this sector and reel in the passengers, and the profit, they need to have the best product they can give. With most of the A340s & A330s being "out dated" it's not good.

Any news regarding possible upgrades for 4R-ALH & ALGs economy cabins? As they have no IFE at all. Surprised UL aquired these aircraft and did not bother giving economy IFE systems, any reasons?

UL needs good consistency throughout the fleet. Only the hop to Maldives from CMB can a lack of IFE be deemed alright.
Praetorian, Yes, 4R-ALJ is being used for PEK, PVG, CAN & HKG via BKK.

Great news to hear fully-refurbished 4R-ALJ has operated it's maiden long-haul-revenue flight between CMB and NRT as nonstop on 22/23-Sep-12. It appears to be UL-Engineering must have resolved the problem of this aircraft's lacking a galley. Hopefully 4R-ALJ start flying the long-hauls where UL seriously needed a suitable aircraft not like ageing A340-311s. It's a time for UL to start refurbishing the Y-Class on remaining A330s that pull the long-hauls. But A340-311/313Xs are not necessary to be upgraded to the new seating and cabin in Y-Class due to the impending retirement of those planes.

SQ used to sub the A345, regularly, for SIN-CGK, as revenue flights ...

Though for A380, they did do a few twice daily SIN-KUL, as touch and go / land and go .. non-revenue flights, for crew familiarization - including the full cabin crew ..

TG is launching BKK-SIN-BKK flights, soon, on A380, maybe for the above reason .. but as revenue flights ..
