COLOMBO (News 1st); SriLankan Airlines plans to add two more aircraft to its fleet by the end of the year, said Chairman Sarath Clement Ganegoda in an interview with CNA.

The Chairman also revealed that SriLankan Airlines has submitted an ambitious five-year strategic plan to the government, outlining short-, medium-, and long-term goals.

“In the short term, we’re focused on driving cash flow and profitability, which is essential for long-term sustainability,” he explained. “In the medium to long term, we’re aiming for stability and growth—doubling the fleet and expanding our route network.”

Ganegoda emphasized that the airline has already identified and prioritized several new routes and is committed to building an organization that its 6,000 employees—and an additional 900 in catering—can be proud of.

                      • Qantas to close budget airline Jetstar Asia from 31 July 2025. CMB is one of the destination impacted by the closure of Jetstar Asia.

Is Jetstar Asia struggling with competition from AirAsia? I see AirAsia also have reduced the flights on KUL-CMB recently if i am not mistaken?
Any chance Scoot launching CMB route ?

The closure of Singapore-based low-cost carrier Jetstar Asia will have ripple effects across Asia, including Sri Lanka, where the airline has served as a key transit link for affordable travel to destinations like Malaysia, Japan, and Australia. Sri Lankan travelers, especially budget-conscious flyers, may face fewer low-cost options and limited connectivity through Singapore once operations […]
