Sri Lanka state carrier to double flights to China

Sri Lanka's state-run SriLankan Airlines is doubling flights to China over the next two years and the booming sector is slated to bring up to 15 percent of the airlines' revenue, an official said.

The airline now flies ten times a week to China (including Hong Kong) which will be increased to 13 this year and 21 over the next two years. With growing affluence larger numbers of Chinese are travelling overseas.

Those three extra weekly flights will likely go to HKG.

unique: Lhasa is the capital of Tibet. Let me say - NO CHANCE ..

If I remember, the runway is located at high altitude, that not all airlines are allowed to fly there .. in the first place.

And crew are known to get down with altitude sickness .. and flights need clearence, so do the passengers, as Visa to China doesn't include permit to Lhasa ..

Plus, there was some supplementary certification for high altitude landings, considering the thin air

Thai AirAsia will continue focusing its network expansion into South Asia. The airline confirms that it will start flying from October to Colombo. http://www.eturbonews.com/24799/aira...y-take-vietnam

4R-ALC was not in operation between 6th Aug and 19th Aug , 4R-ALA is also not in operation since 20th Aug. It appears to be 4R-ALC has completed its cabin-upgrades on 19th Aug and 4R-ALA is currently undergoing its cabin-upgrades. Cabin-Upgrade for 4R-ALB, 4R-ALD, 4R-ADE and 4R-ADF are to be completed by December this year.

Crew apart I don't think the aircraft itself needs to be certified for high altitude operations right? I don't remember reading anything special about the A319 delivered to the new start up Tibet airways.
