          ??? MD 82 vs a 737-300/400 ... ??

Or did you compare with a new build 737 ?

PS: compared with a newer 737, the MD 82s would have come rock bottom cheap ..

                25 Oct, 2013 13:54:28

IMHO Mihin should be looking for 5+ 737s if it wants to develop economies of scale. Additionally they should be looking at new destinations such as Kazakhstan, Vietnam etc. Honestly though they shouldve gone for A320NEOs. My mind boggles me as to why they didnt do so as a LCC.

well, yes they should have gone with the A320neo's in order to avoid additional training and switching costs. plus MJ should fly as u said to Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Brunei and NOT SEZ.

Gulf Air may resume Colombo flights next year......

Gulf Air, announced its restructuring strategy was on-track following a robust financial and operational performance in the first half of the year, ending June 2013.

In the first two quarters of 2013, Gulf Air reduced its overall losses by over 50% compared to the same period in 2012. This achievement was realised primarily through a 26% reduction in year-on-year costs across the organisation and bolstered by sound revenue results aided by a Q2 yield increase of over 6%.

Gulf Air performed 15% ahead of its financial target in the first six months of the year, a clear indication that the financial and operating restructuring improvements already in place are yielding results. Gulf Air expects to realise additional improvements as it continues to remove excess operational cost from the organisation, renegotiate contracts with certain vendors and suppliers and fine-tune the network.

Madness !, the people running this airline surely have a screw or two missing, does NOT make any sense to be operating Boeings and Airbus, especially when they and the "Partner" airline UL are so much geared up to Airbus.., they would have gor a great deal if they tagged it onto the recent multi aircraft order from Airbus.

Maybe a "minister" is getting a handout here ?

Currently Mihin Lanka operates three aircraft but from 2015 they will have two B737s. So their fleet number is going down from three to two.. what's the point.
