The Demand is quite high on this sector.....but competition is high as the route is served by UL,AI,IX and SG as well.
Colombo was the first International Destination for 9W started way back in March 2004...Im shocked with the fact that there pulling out....anyone knows why???

Few months back UL reduced the frequency on MAA flights from 28 weekly to 21 weekly. Now I am quite surprised 9W is quitting MAA-CMB sector, I believe they will keep the BOM-CMB sector active.

SriLankan Airlines is planning a major Indian expansion, which could drive down fares and yields for Jet airways, industry observers say. (colombo page)

Mihin's schedule wont be affected as Mihin cancel Delhi service from December 13. It used to operate Delhi every Mon, Wed and Sat. Following Delhi flight cancellation, Mihin will increase Dubai from 3 to 5 weekly (new flights on Mon & Wed). Perhaps they are planning to wet-lease their aircraft to UL on Saturdays for Muscat service. I think Mihin should have increased the Bahrain from 6 weely to Daily as they currently don't operate Bahrain on Saturdays. I hate when they mix MJ/UL aircraft for the flight service.

Sorry but I can't see UL increasing frequency on India flights. I notice UL going to increase Jeddah flights from three to four weekly , effective 5 Jan 2014.

Ironically, this amount is almost identical to the CHOGM bill (which was LKR 15.8 B), yet nobody is taking about the waste of UL and fixated on CHOGM.

For what it's worth, a substantial chunk of CHOGM money went in to infrastructure development and beautification, which will benefit the entire population of Sri Lanka, not to mention the publicity the country received (OK, some negative, I agree)

Who is getting the benefit of the billions spent on UL?

Government has managed to turn around both CPC and CEB, despite these being essential entities for the running of the country hence must be run even at a loss. But why keep a deadbeat airline afloat, which brings no benefits to the country?

Short answer is no one apart from Nishantha, Kapila and the other cronies of the Rajapakse regime.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa is continuing to pump public funds to keep the loss making budget airline, Mihin Lanka afloat.

In the 2014 Budget, the President has allocated millions to uplift the operations of Mihin Lanka and SriLankan Airlines.

However, Leader of the House, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva had to defend the move in parliament on behalf of the government.

The Minister has said that the government has a responsibility to protect national entities.

In the 2014 budget allocations the government had announced that US$ 150 million will be allocated for SriLankan and US$ 50 million to Mihin Lanka.

Rejecting allegations that the two airlines are used by government members, de Silva has said that SriLankan Airlines and Mihin Lanka are used by a majority of Sri Lankans for their overseas travels.

Hey Guys, I checked on SriLankan Website, where I unable to find SriLankan flights operating out of Mattala from 16 Dec 2013. Does this mean SriLankan to cancel operating the Mattala flights. Please confirm.
