    Yes, development of CMB should be carried our regardless. City of Colombo needs a secondary regional airport within the urban area. Many major cities in the world like London, New York and Toronto do. Cities like L.A. have several.

      Renovation work and the relaying of the run way of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) will be completed by the end of this month ahead of schedule.

      “We will be able to open the airport two weeks ahead of time,” a Transport and Civil Aviation Ministry official said.

          BIA runway overlay completed

          Overlay work on the runway at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) was completed ahead of schedule last week but re-opening for all flights would take place as planned on April 6

            The Batticaloa airport will be opened as a civil airport by the end of next month.

            “The airport has a vast area of land where civil aviation operators can set up aviation facilities such as flying training schools,” Nimalsiri said.

            He said a national policy for civil aviation has been drafted to make best use of the enormous potential of the airspace over Sri Lanka which is a huge asset to boost social and economic development.

            The Batticaloa airport will be opened as a civil airport by the end of next month, Civil Aviation Authority, Director General of Civil Aviation and CEO H.M.C. Nimalsiri said.He said the airport has been vested with the CAA and steps are being taken to segregate civil and military operations so that the airport could be operated as a fully civil airport.

                  Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) will reopen on April 6 as scheduled, after a 3-month day-break for urgent repairs, but most of the flights will start operating only on April 7, according to officials.
