Peace Air ties up with Chinese company to purchase 8 Bell helicopters
Peace Air Pvt. Ltd signed up an helicopter purchase and maintenance agreement with Chairman, Jinlianan International Investment Consultant (Beijing) Co., Ltd. Chongqing, China. This is to launch a domestic Helicopter aviation service in Sri Lanka.
Vice President, Peace Air Pvt Ltd, Ireha C. Wethasinghe said that they hope to purchase 8 Bell helicopters (5 and 18 seater) under this agreement and two would be delivered by early next month. “Our total requirement is 8 helicopters and we hope finalize the complete deal by end 2019. The domestic operations would be operated under Peace Air Helicopter Service.”
She said that they will launch daily flights to most of the domestic airports from both Ratmalana and Colombo international airport. “We will also use the smaller aircraft for domestic charters.”
A local airline crew consisting of mostly former Air Force officers would be recruited to for the operation and they will also launch an online ticketing platform so that passengers could plan their journey in advance.
Chairman, Jinlianan International Investment Consultant (Beijing), Li Xianglin, said that they have observed that Sri Lanka tourism sector is growing rapidly and decided to assist Peace Air Pvt Ltd, to raise capital not only for their Helicopter Service but also for their international airline operations which would be launched on Independence Day on February 4.
He said that the Chinese government has now allowed several domestic airports to operate direct flights and Peace Air would be flying to these destinations. There are around 18 million Chinese that travel overseas and I think Sri Lanka can easily attract 30% of this market which would be about 5. 4 million passengers per year.”
Chairman Peace Air, Gamini Wethasinghe said that they will also look at operating to new European destinations and also to routes like Paris, Frankfurt, Milan and Hong Kong which were abandoned by SriLankan.

A quick search of all the names reveals almost no information - that includes the company listed on the banner. Their website isn't working - no links lead to any information.
Looks very suspicious - unclear what is really going on.
Did they apply for an AOC? I'm betting they didn't.

Peace Air plans to launch operations in February 2019

Sri Lanka’s first privately owned airline, Peace Air plans to launch operations on 04 February 2019, according to chairman Gamini Wethasinghe. The airline is backed by US$2 billion from US and Chinese investors.
The first routes are to China, namely Wuhan, Xi, An Urumqi, Chongqing and Hardin -- all to be daily direct flights. From March 2019, the carrier plans to expand to Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, targeting religious passengers.
The airline will initially fly a new B787-8 to China and later a B787-10, with both aircraft already on order with Boeing, according to the airline. The acquisition of a further eight aircraft is also being planned.
Peace Air is also attempting the purchase of SriLankan Airlines for US$5.5 billion, and has reached a framework agreement with Lufthansa Consulting to conduct a due diligence in the national carrier.

I see SriLankan is advertising for a new Chief Commercial Officer - being advertised on at least one global recruiting site.
What happened to the guy from Air Namibia? When he was appointed they made it sound like he would save the Airline.

4R-MRD is not flying for last two weeks. I think it's leaving the SriLankan Airlines fleet like we speculated before.
I was speaking technician at UL said 4R-ALS will be undergoing cabin refurbishment very soon. He is denying the media report which said 4R-ALS doesn't have air worthiness.Comment

That's some serious money being spent for very little benefit imho.
There can't be very much money left from the UBS loan.
This aircraft was being flown under an EASA AOC - it's just laughable that anyone would make a claim that it's not airworthy.

Rossiya Airlines is all set to launch direct flights to Sri Lanka
Rossiya Airlines is going to fly nonstop flights to Sri Lankan Capital Colombo from 18th December 2018.
The Service will be operated five weekly onboard Boeing B777-300 aircraft between Moscow SVO and Colombo CMB.
Aeroflot recommenced Colombo flights with five weekly effective end of October 2018 and Russian Charter Airline Azur Air is also operating flights to Colombo. It's a good news third Russian airline is joining to operate the Moscow - Colombo route.

Rajapaksa administration owes SriLankan Airlines Rs.122mn: Officer
A total of Rs.122.3 million is owed to SriLankan by the Presidential Secretariat, the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Commonwealth Games Committee for charted flights they have booked between 2006 and 2014, SriLankan Airlines Network Planning Manager Sumudu Upattisa informed the PCoI on Wednesday.
The Presidential Commission is inquiring into irregularities at SriLankan Airlines, SriLankan Catering and Mihin Lanka.
Mr. Upatissa said the airlines had written to these government institutions calling for the overdue amounts.
When counsel appearing on behalf of the AG’s Department asked Mr. Upatissa, he said the money was due to the airlines for the several charted flights booked by these institutions during the Rajapaksa administration.
“There were several flights to Johannesburg, Tel Aviv, Rome and Bolivia. SriLankan does not fly to these destinations on a regular basis,” he said.
Mr. Upatissa told the PCoI that in a charted flight to Johannesburg in December 2013, there were only 26 passengers whereas it could carry 243.
He said the Presidential Secretariat paid the airline Rs.36 million for this A340 flight which has had 38 business class seats and 205 economy class seats while on another chartered flight to Tel Aviv, Israel in January 2014, the Presidential Secretariat paid the airlines Rs.46.3 million.
“Only 48 passengers travelled on this aircraft, which can carry 312. Interestingly, the plane landed first in Amman, the capital of Jordan, where 42 passengers got off. Only six people flew to Tel Aviv,” Mr. Upatissa told the PCoI.
"Another chartered flight booked by the Presidential Secretariat to take 39 passengers to Bolivia in June 2014 cost the Secretariat Rs.57 million. The aircraft can carry 312 passengers. Bolivia is also not a destination that SriLankan flies to very often."
He also informed the commission that the Presidential Secretariat had not paid the Rs.43.4 million owed for a chartered flight to Rome in October 2014 and that it had 69 passengers onboard while it could carry 312 passengers. (Yoshitha Perera)Comment
