He said they have also acquired a 737 200 cargo aircraft for training . and now are on the look out for a six seater Cessna aircraft.

Slight advantage in terms of ??? other than to say we support the national carrier .. when others offer better prices, better connectivity with next to free stopover packages .. Tell me again, if UL charges 2000 $ and SQ offered the same flight for 1500, plus a 3 day stopover in Singapore, with 2 nights / 1 day stay, free travel pass, and concessionary entry to attractions, which one would you choose ??

      Exactly.

When I was talking to somebody from a Philippine carrier how they add routes, the guy said this "just because there are a few thousand marias in X country, we don't add a flight, however patriotic Maria maybe ... After all, the Maria's flights maybe paid by the employers who want the cheapest flight, never mind Maria will have to stop over in two cities before reaching home. Flights are added based on the number of Full fare paying clients and other factors, not based on the diaspora living there ..

Are they still flying. The last 737-200 was rolled our way back in 1988. Most would have faced retirement by now due to the high cycles they would have accumulated due to short haul flying. Has unique looking engines though, the Pratt &Whitney JT8D and those extra windows on the cockpit.
On top of all how is it gonna be useful since most common type of narrow body aircraft at this time are the Boeing 737NG and Airbus A320 which even their days are numbered due to latest successor of each counter part.
Can someone explain the most practical and useful purpose this aircraft(737-200) could serve.

Checking the Web, I found two B737-200's for sale - that had 77,000 cycles on them :

Browse a wide selection of new and used BOEING 737 Jet Aircraft for sale near you at Controller.com, the leading aircraft marketplace.

5 Boeing 737 Cargo/Freighter Jets for Sale Worldwide. Search aircraft for sale for free! Buy and sell planes and helicopters online at GlobalPlaneSearch.com.

I think the B737-200 needs more maintanance when its have high number of flying cycles. I guess they can continue flying indefinitely with more costly maintenance. Please correct me if i am wrong.

Still plenty 737-200 flying in Canada. A lot of them have a gravel kit installed that allows them to operate on gravel/ice runways in the Arctic. No gravel kit exists for the later models.

Maldivian plan to launch Male - Ratmalana flights delayed

Plans by Maldivian (Q2, Malé) to launch the first scheduled international passenger flights from Sri Lanka's Colombo Ratmalana airport for fifty years have been delayed, reports Lanka Information. Maldivian Airlines planned to run a Malé – Ratmalana service 3x weekly using Dash 8-300 turboprop equipment starting April 9, 2017. However, Sri Lankan Customs staff have yet to be deployed to the airport and the flights have not commenced. Ratmalana, located 15 kilometres south of Colombo, has primarily served as a domestic and training airport since the mid-1960s, although prior to that it was Sri Lanka's only international facility. In March this year, Sri Lankan and Maldivian authorities agreed to sign an MoU to see the airport return to scheduled international operations. It was thought that the route would appeal primarily to the tourist niche given the airfield's closer proximity to downtown Colombo than Colombo International Airport. The flights do not currently appear on Maldivian's website.

Narendra Modi announces direct Colombo-Varanasi flight

Taking part in the 14th International Vesak Day celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced a direct flight between Colombo and Varanasi. PM Modi is an elected MP from Varanasi, which is about 250km from the Buddhist pilgrimage centre of Bodhgaya.

“From August 2017, Air India will operate direct flights between Colombo and Varanasi. This will ease travel of brothers and sisters from Sri Lanka to visit Varanasi, the land of Kashi Vishwanath,” Narendra Modi announced.

India will continue to be a “friend” of Sri Lanka and will help in the nation-building of the island country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in Colombo on Friday.| India News

Is AI going to fly the seasonal flight on VNS-CMB?
Btw UL already have direct flights to VNS. Does that mean this is a profitable route for the airlines?

It may be a political decision…

Air India made Rs 321 crore operating loss last fiscal year.......

CAG's observations also come at a time when concerns persist in certain quarters about the viability of Air India even as the government has been talking about last fiscal's operational profit to counter the concerns.

Hello Capt Eric Janson and Capt Axel Wala,

I've noticed on Flightradar24-website that CS-TFZ is currently doing engine run-ups on the spot near RWY25L at Brussels Airport. Does that mean seat reconfiguration already been completed for this aircraft? Any update when is the next acceptance flight?

                            Best Regards

Run ragged by rivals, Air India has just two choices left: Privatise or perish

Seems to be it is almost like Sri Lankan.

All I know is that the aircraft is in Brussels - still registered as CS-TFZ.

Not sure what is going on.
