Yes. KF had succeeded from TRZ without onward traffic. There is not much different for IXM. More over it has tourism and medical tourism traffic. But onward traffic is more than O&D traffic.

      I see.

Wouldn't it be better if UL actually purchased some aircraft, rather than relying on leases? It requires a lot of capital to be sunk in initially, however just as the same manner UL acquires leased aircraft (to which UL has to pay money to the owning company) UL with its own aircraft can lease them out after 10 years use to someone else and earn money from the aircraft lease.

This way UL will actually have some solid assets as well.

With the leases running out on these aircraft (are they all A340s??) has UL planned on acquiring new planes, inducting them in now. Because to use the currently outdated aircraft (cabin conditions wise alone) for another 6 months-to a year is very disastrous to the brand. People are already blasting UL with hatred for sending out such poor/old aircraft based on the cabin conditions (poor seats, inflight system), which are frankly terrible, and I know this because I had first hand experience recently. Things are made worse by our competitors offering better services. UL is driving passengers away.

Does anyone know the progress of the cabin upgrades? So far I have A330: ALA, ALB & ALC and A340: ADF

Also, is anything happening to the older A320's? Are they going to be brought upto the standard of the new ones?

UL CEO said to Airline Business Daily that they are looking at a possible blended approach, where we own 25% and lease 75%. Hopefully we will purchase the widebody aircraft which are going to replace the ageing ADA, B & C in 2013/14.

ALJ currently undergoing it's cabin upgradation. ADE is next. Older A320s are on short leases I doubt UL will upgrade them.

If memory serves me right, Western European airlines have never real flown to CMB since the 1990s. Think Austrian Airlines did a stint not too long ago, planned to re-start, then bailed entirely.

Regarding Eastern European airlines i don't think there is enough traffic volumes to make it profitable for them.

Also should take into account UL likes to protect it's routes (London-CMB etc).

Lufthansa said they had interest in HIA and there have been some talk regarding this.

I see, well thats cool! Hopefully they will get the new wide bodies soon and induct them into the fleet, rather than wait till the end of 2013/when the leases expire.

I actually thought they had bought this beast and that new A320 outright. Wish they did.

              Thanks for the update Banuthev

                Banuthev,
What are these circuits/devises at the front of the seats head rest areas for?

Praetorian: that looks like a Mad Dog cabin, and one carrier was experimenting with 'in seat' speakers, so you don't need headsets, as some of the long distance busses in Philippines are also kitting their busses out ..

                  Maybe .. same ..

Thats interesting. Has it's pro-and cons, saves the airline of having to dole out headsets. If it breaks they can provide passengers with headsets, however if the system malfunctions (not just stops out right) could be a problem for passengers.

I was thinking these are head rests that on push of a button fold in/out??

Its probably just something from the PTV display unit at the back of the seat.

Bangkok-Colombo Route Update - Thai AirAsia has announced their operation-base will be moved permanently from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang in 1st Oct 2012. Budget Airline, Thai AirAsia decided to return to Don Mueang as AoT is offering fee discounts to attract airlines to return to Don Mueang, including a 95% reduction on fees for aircraft takeoff and landing, fee reduction for check-in counter services as well as office renting. It's likely Don Mueang will become a base for Domestic and Low-cost airlines in Bangkok while Suvarnabhumi concentrates on the legacy carriers. Presently Suvanabhumi-Colombo route being lead by SriLankan Airlines which is now offering Twenty one flights per week when Cathay Pacfic with three weekly, Thai Airways with three weekly and Thai AirAsia with three weekly. With this Thai AirAsia's move, Thai Airways will increase the frequency of Colombo flights from the current three weekly to four weekly in Winter 2012.

If you include the other 9 from the other airlines, thats A LOT of people going to Bangkok and back.
